A Wonderful Day

By Philip Franklin

It was a wonderful day

I had passed my exams

I walked tall and wanted to play

My friend suggested a drink and a meal

To celebrate our mutual achievement

It did not seem real

We had our meal

Then drove to my wood

My place of solitude and damnation

But that night a place for elation

The stars shone unnaturally bright

Or so it seemed to me

My friend took me in her arms

And said well done, you have won the fight

I still remember that night

When the stars shone unnaturally bright

The smell of her and the woodlands scent

To know somehow that were meant

 To be.
