ReleaseA Poem by Scott ChristianMy fiance left me for someone else. This is my response. One day in my garden while walking along the pond I spied a little frog, croaking sadly amongst the rocks "What fate has befallen me!" It bemoaned, tears fell big and bright "I have but love to give, were not I always tread upon To suffer endless boot treads and steel toes upon my fragile frame if but for a lifetime I could swing from tree and limb atop away from the beasts below who set upon me devour I would pledge my soul my life my being to one with so much power" Touched was I with its pleas, this gentle, gorgeous creature I braved the dangers of each night, of deep and shallow and large To rescue one so fair and oppressed. A goal of which was mine we spent our days amidst the reeds and rocks and rippled waters We laughed, we sang, It clung to me, and all of Earth's divines ours. But was it is with inevitabiliy, those days and nights did wane and one little frog so grand was wont to explain how magic can affect the eyes; turn frog into a snake I still see young garden snake, slither and wriggle and crawl It's eyes and mine lock gaze but brief and grief to us and all "Your bite," I wept "did sting and burn and scar, but my altruistic manner cannot be deterred I remain steadfast and strong, all others deny me not And I release thee now, young garden snake to farther lands to trot. Bless be upon you And your journey now longer and hard, for maybe one day will we Be frog and log. Or not. Who knows? You cannot kill my soul my fire with so weak a fang or glare And amidst your protests and chest puffs I know you will always be there."
