The Girl

The Girl

A Story by Ev

The smiles and laughs have become fake. After so much damage was delt, the only thing to do was to let go of everything and sit and be content with the emptyness and the darkness that surrounds her. The girl who had once been so happy, so well held together, and looked up to by others was nothing more than a memory now. She had those thoughts. Those thoughts of what would happen if the pain were gone...if she were gone. She was looking over things, second guessing each step, and not stopping to take a breath. She rushed through it all, just to get it over with. She took her time to build up walls to block out the world. Whenever someone would knock them down; she'd just build them right back up again. The fear grew so much bigger than anything. All she lived in was the "What if" or "Maybe".  Then when she finally found a reason to be happy, she only teetered from happy so sad once again. She found herself holding onto every last word...every last mumbled word could keep her going for a few hours. It'd get her just far enough to last a day. Once she was alone, however, all of it would break loose and, once more, there would be nothing to hold on to. The constant aching in her heart and the constant shouting thoughts in her mind did nothing to help. All she's got now is those last words...the words that either mean nothing or mean everything. "I love you."
