Prologue;A Chapter by Ev
I remember when I was younger. I was about nine, I suppose. My mother would look out the window right as the sun began to set. "It's time, Ni," We'd go down all the halls in our large house, into all the rooms, and throw blankets over the mirrors. There were hundreds of mirrors in our house, and every single night, we'd cover them up.
I remember waking up in middle of the night. I was very cold and I supposed the old heater had turned off like it often did in the winter. I ran down one of the long halls to a room that had a large, soft cover draped over a mirror. I grabbed the cover once I came to it. I began to pull. "Phoenix!" My father's voice rang through the room. I jumped and let the cover fall to the ground. My father yelled and ran toward me, knocked me out of the way, and struggled to pick up the cover and untangle it. A bright light filled the room. My father cried out. In a way, I killed my father.
