Love's Profits

Love's Profits

A Poem by Clover

Does anyone know
what love looks like?

Is it the glimmer of frost
on the trees, just after dawn?
Or the search for something lost
and the joy when it's found?

Is the embrace of a friend,
that will never know they are more to you?
Or the smile given by a stranger
that made you smile too?

Truly, these things are called love
love lost and found, given and taken
But also, these are not love.
Rather, they are love's profits.

What does love truly look like?

Can you see it, hear it, or touch it?
Does it have a taste or scent?
No, love is something beyond the senses
Something that breaks down all defenses.

Love is two people giving, but never asking.
Love is one person having, but never wanting.
Love is nobody's right, but everyone's responsibility.
Love is everything...and nothing.

I can't see love,
but I can give it.
Never asking any for myself.
Those around me may spurn it,
or steal it just to burn it.
Or they may ignore it,
seeing nothing more
than what the surface shows.
But still I will try to love.

Will you?

About
Now I believe that lovers should be draped in flowers and laid entwined together on a bed of clover and left there to sleep, left there to dream of their happiness. -Connor Oberst more..
