Choking Sunlight

Choking Sunlight

A Poem by Clover

I can't breathe.
I'm choking in a sunlight condition,
and it seems like I need permission
to live.

You lock me out,
then complain that I'm not in.
so how do I win?
Or am I playing a game
where the result's just the same...
Lose.

First you're there,
then your eyes slip past mine.
Should I take it as a sign?
Do you care?

I don't understand,
and you won't enlighten me.
Is it possible you don't see
that I need words?

Words of reason,
of explanation
to rid me of frustration,
of this expectation.

I just need to know.

Oh what a frustrating place it is to be where you describe! "You lock me out,
then complain that I'm not in."- these lines were brilliant. How often do we complete self-fulfilling prophesies this way, finding new and unusual ways to reject the people who love us, in small ways, every day? the turn around and complain we are not loved.

I can completely empathize with your last line, "I just need to know". Sometimes, just knowing really would make the pain go away. Sometimes. Nicely done!
