On A Dusty Shelf

On A Dusty Shelf

A Poem by *~Imperfectly Me~*

On a Dusty Shelf

Here I am

Open my cover

See how torn I am

My binding is breaking

I'm held together by my own will

Now see the scratched out words

And the ripped out pages

The Words are my scars,

missing pages are the memories

too painful for me to read

But if you ask about them...

I promise I will tell

I will not hide my personal Hell

I am an open book now read me!

Find out who I am

No question will go unanswered

Nothing will I hide...

I am a book open in front of you

Read me and know me

I will not lie

For here in you hands I will abide

I lay here broken

Asking for nothing

Just notice I'm held together by my will

I do not wish to be mended...

For I don't know how

Not even Duct tape can fix me

For my nothing will stick

Please Hold me gently

read my every word

Please read me

and Know me...

Don't leave me be

This was cool! I imagined one of my grandfathers old books talking to me about philosophy, while i held it in my hands!
I really liked how, not only was it the book talking, but yourself as well.
I shall always treasure this book, and hold it's words dear.

OH, this was a wonderful poem! Personifying a book on a shelf; In such a way that it gave it feelings and fears and hopes.
In a way it makes me feel sad, as I know alot of books simply sit on those old dusty shelves and never get opened to unlock the treasures with in.
I really like the lines about the book being held together by force of will. That added a wonderful touch, telling us that the book is selfless, it's entire purpose in life is to be cherished and read; Yet it know's it's meaning fades if it keeps being patched.
Bringing in the idea that once the knowledge and secrets that it holds are gone, their gone! No going back. I liken that to people. Once a person dies, that's it; Can't go back and make amends or do things differently. So best to treat that book right the first time and share in it's divine purpose.

Wonderfully writen poem! A truly enjoyable read.

This is a great poem! I have books that are old and tattered. I never thought of using them as inspirtation for a poem. This was an original.

Imperfectly you; perfectly written. I really like the story of a lost and lonely book upon a shelf of how many books? Does it matter? Is not every book a wonder in and of itself? Who can ever get tired of reading?

Beautifully penned.

Peace and love,
Gabe

I loved this. I really like presenting yourself as a (slightly?) damaged book. Are you really that open? Is anyone?

Excellent write.........could take it from the prospective of a book talking to someone or a person left out of everything wanting attention......
