A Secret's Decaying CaseA Poem by paperdaydreamsKeeping a secret can sometimes make you feel like the burden is killing you slowly from the inside. As you try to cover up the pain from the outside you're only trapping the murderer in.
As the trapped words clog his first lung
His throat fills with the thick smog No gas mask can save him now, only his tongue A swirling tendril trembles on the trigger Still he keeps his jaw clamped shut Russian roulette with one shaking figure Long lived fear has rusted the hinge And screws dig into gaping wounds As tears clutching onto his eyelash singe The padded cushion of his rosebud lip May seem plush to any visitor But the stitches, in reality, are loosing grip A true artist can cover any faults With a slathering of oil here and there The footstep of a paintbrush following the waltz The layers only build up as cracks re appear Until Van Gogh's starry night sits before you Choppy strokes merge together through a threatening tear Little would you know if below a prepped canvas, formed of barbed wire mesh Sat constantly cutting deeper into the secret's scarred flesh
