Please DaddyA Poem by paperdaydreamsA poem from child's viewpoint who's dad has just returned from war
Please read me a bed time story Daddy?
You told me the only stories you know are about war But you used to tell the best stories. Since you came home you just sit and look out the window. You told me you were watching your friends But I couldn't see any people. I asked if I could meet them and you just shook your head. Please can I have a cuddle Daddy? I don't mind if your arm feels all smooth yet bumpy, Like those wax crayons I left on the radiator. They melted into a big mush and felt funny But when you bought me some new ones I still used the old crayons. They made pretty rainbow patterns because the they'd smooshed together You said you loved them and stuck my pictures on the fridge. Please can we go to the park Daddy? I can push your chair and we can race the birds across the green. I don't mind if you can't push me on the swings anymore; I can be a big boy and learn myself and make you proud. We have all the bread from the sandwhiches you didn't want to eat, So we can go and feed the ducks in the pond too. I know you'd love it. Please can you smile again Daddy? Mummy said your smile was better than a sunflower blooming. I think it was better than my bestest blue and yellow racing car. And when you smile your eyes go all sparkly Like i just spilt green glitter all over them. I miss you smile and your laugh, your stories and hugs and the park too... Please can I have you back daddy. © 2013 paperdaydreams |
