Karmen :The Dancer under the Smoke.

Karmen :The Dancer under the Smoke.

A Poem by Imane Ben
"

Karmen is a dancer who gave up her steps of Flamenco as the Spaniards arrived to Andalusia.

"
"Gracias ballerina",
The land of Andalusia and the shores of the Moors.
One warship sank amidst treason,
Where the eyes of the gypsy guitarist rained.
The eyes of her  niño stared the castle,
And the eyes of the gypsy guitarist still stare.
Her niño stares!
She left Alhambra once,
When la roja turned black.
She abandoned her niño , she missed the track.
" Gracias ballerina, Alonso said.
The teacher danced and Karmen too.
She danced and danced,
And danced and danced till she faded.
She turned in circles and remembered her  niño,
She cried and forgot the steps of Flamenco.
Karmen sank like the warship in the sins of her ancestors.
Her grandparents burned the promise,
And Ferdinand took her  niño.
The gypsy guitarist, they tell, sold his instrument,
When the Spaniards bought Alvarez.
Alvarez  sold his weapon and bought his coat.
Just after, only after,
The Arabian caravans escaped through the mist.
Where the gypsy legacy settled in North Africa,
It became a memory.
A broken mirror, a merimory.
The gypsy passion now is left in Granada,
Where he first met Karmen in the south of Andalusia.
His shadows cry love and nostalgia.
Karmen is dead, Alvarez and the gypsy are buried in Numidia.
The rest of the body is between borders of land  and the Mediterranean.
"Sergio Haroun El Fares, the martyr of love lies here",
The gypsy's name is finally written on his tomb!
