Chapter 14: Sarah, new meister

Three weeks had passed since Bethany’s insanity and she had been improving. Jaya and Rylie had side classes to learn how to control their powers while Bethany was often pulled aside to make sure madness wouldn’t gobble her up again. They hadn’t heard any news from Shinigami-sama about Yasmine but they didn’t need to worry, they knew Spartoi would eventually bring her home. It was a Saturday and the girls were shopping and having coffee at Death Bucks a new coffee shop that opened a few weeks ago. Bethany sipped away her drink, looking over at Jaya who had bandages around both her forearms.

            “I’m really sorry.” Bethany mumbled.

            “It’s not your fault B-mel, it was that Valentine creep who was controlling you!” Jaya said.

            “Yeah, who was he anyway?” Rylie asked.

            “He claims he serves the Great Old One and said me going into madness would help me connect to him.” Bethany said.

            “Well that was all bullshit B-mel.” Rylie said sipping her drink.

            “Actually, he was right.” Bethany said, all three girls either chocking or spitting out their drinks. Rachel was the first to recover.

            “What?!” Rachel asked.

            “Yeah, I met the Great Old One.” Bethany said plainly, as if this was all normal. “He was telling me all this stuff about the Kishin, like saying how he’s gonna take one of us and he’ll have the whole world bowing at his feet.”

            “Which one of us?” Rylie asked.

Bethany only shrugged, taking another sip of her drink and looking out the window. The whole city looked peaceful, everyone doing whatever they needed or hanging out with friends.

            “It’s really sad how everyone here is gonna go through hell.” Bethany said, her friends following her gaze. Suddenly, Marie came running in trying to catch her breath when she made it to their table.

            “Shinigami-sama wants to see you!” Marie said urgently.

            The girls arrived to Shinigami-sama’s office where Stein, Spirit, Sid and of course Shinigami-sama were crowded around something. Marie tapped Shinigami-sama’s shoulder, who turned seeming relived that the girls had made it.

            “Something wrong Shinigami-sama?” Rachel asked.

            “Well…you’d better see for yourself.” Shinigami-sama said, making room for them. Lying on the floor was a girl with sun gold hair, a red diamond in the middle of her forehead wearing a baggy grey suit with twin tails at the end. She appeared to be sleeping and the girls looked at Shinigami-sama rather confused.

            “We don’t know her, him, whatever this is.” Jaya said.

            “Well she kept mumbling Yasmine’s name in her sleep.” Stein explained. “I wouldn’t mind dissecting it if we’re that unsure of what it is.”

            “That won’t be needed Stein-kun.” Shinigami-sama said. “I sense great power inside this…child and I advise we don’t tamper with her or him.”

Bethany looked at the small being and said “Well it looks a bit like a Pokemon don’t ya think?”

            “I don’t know, I don’t watch it.” Jaya explained.

            “I know nothing on Pokemon.” Rachel said.

            “Yasmine knows most of them right?” Rylie asked.

Bethany kneeled on one knee, cautiously poking the being in the forehead. Suddenly the beings eyes popped open, revealing them to be a chocolate brown eye color. The being sat up, looking around at every living object. Her eyes suddenly stayed on Bethany, her eyes began to water.

            “B-Bethany?” the being asked. Bethany was suddenly tackled in a hug, the being sobbing on Bethany’s shoulder. Bethany, unsure of what to, patted its shoulder.

            “Don’t you recognize me?” the being asked, wiping her eyes.

Bethany shook her head no, the being looking over at Jaya, Rachel and Rylie who also shook their heads no. The being looked rather confused till she looked herself in Shinigami-sama’s mirror. She looked down at herself, giggling nervously and said “It’s me, Sarah.”

The four looked at her in shock, soon ambushing Sarah in a group hug. The faculty members watched them in slight confusion.

            “How is everyone?” Rachel asked.

            “Everyone’s searching for you guys; most people are suspecting you dead.” Sarah explained.

            “How’d you end up here?” Rylie asked.

            “Well I was doing another sweep where you guys were last seen till I found this weird crystal. I touched it then I blacked out, when I woke up I was here.” Sarah explained.

            “You mean that crystal?” Jaya asked, pointing to the red crystal imbedded in Sarah’s forehead.

Sarah looked back into the mirror, seeing the red crystal and letting her fingers brush across it.

            “Yeah, that one.” Sarah said plainly. “You guys need to come back, everyone’s worried sick about you guys!”

            “We’ll get back to home soon Sarah; we have a lot on our plate right now.” Rylie said.

            “Wait…where’s Yasmine?” Sarah asked. Telling by the looks on her friends faces, Sarah repeated “Where’s Yasmine?”

            “I-In Medusa’s forest….” Rachel said, scratching the back of her head.

            “Where’s that?” Sarah asked, suddenly panicking. “She’s only on a mission…right?”

            “No Sarah, Yasmine was kidnapped by Medusa.” Shinigami-sama said, Sarah trembling at the name of the Snake Witch.

            “We have to get her back then!” Sarah said.

            “I already sent a team to get her back.” Shinigami-sama said, patting Sarah on the back. “She’ll be back before you know it.”

There was suddenly an urgent ringing coming from the mirror. Shinigami-sama answered it, showing the scenery of Medusa’s forest. Ox was speaking, breathing heavily.

            “What is it Ox-kun?” Shinigami-sama asked.

Yasmine has gone completely insane! Ox said. She stole one of our members.

            “Which one?” Shinigami-sama asked.

…Kirikou and his weapons Fire and Thunder. She ambushed us and snatched him when his back was turned. Kim is currently healing everyone but she’s becoming incredibly weak. We’re resting but she hasn’t gone that far. Hopefully we’ll get her back by today.    

            “Thank you Ox-kun.” Shinigami-sama said and hanged up. He turned towards the girls who looked terrified.

            “Yasmine’s gone insane too?!” Jaya screamed angrily.

            “Apparently so.” Shinigami-sama said. “She is also a slave to the gods, Eibon. She’s most likely a creation by him as well. She’s quite loyal as you can see but a bit too loyal.”

            “Yasmine was not created!” Rachel said angrily. “She was born a human and is gonna die one too!”

            “If you say so.” Stein said and turned to Sarah.” Are you a weapon or meister?”

            “I don’t know.” Sarah said.

            “Well until then, you’ll be staying with Rachel, Rylie and Jaya.” Stein said. “Bethany will be staying in Gallows Mansion with Kid-kun until she can get past her madness.”

            “Which is mostly going to take a while.” Bethany pointed, she didn’t seem to mind. The girls were led out of the room, the doors closing behind them. Sarah was trembling madly, Rachel putting a hand on her shoulder to calm her down a bit.

            “It’s okay Sarah; we’ll get her back soon.” Rachel promised. Sarah sniffled, soon running to Rachel and being embraced. Jaya, Rylie and Bethany joined in the hug as Sarah silently wept.

 

            Many days passed and Sarah was currently placed in the meister class, her weapon finding would come later. As Sarah was packing her things away for her next class, she suddenly bumped into someone new.

            “Oh terribly sorry.” A young voice said. Looking up Sarah came face to face with a tall boy, wearing a baggy buttoned up shirt and skinny black jeans, having long unruly hair that was covered by a black and white ball cap. His green eyes were hypnotizing and he wore a long necklace with a large black ball on the end. Sarah nearly dropped her things but was able to grab hold of her books.

            “U-Uh, hi I’m Sarah…” Sarah said, suddenly nervous. The boy only smiled warmly and said “Why hello Sarah, my name is N and I just came from the school in Japan. I’m new here.”

            “Oh cool!” Sarah said.

            “Do you have a weapon?” N asked. Sarah suddenly looked embarrassed and replied “No…”

            “Oh….Sorry…” N said, looking rather embarrassed with himself. “Don’t worry though, you’ll find one.”

Suddenly a young girl with a boyish hair cut wearing a white and blue short sleeved jacket and baggy jeans, her black hair was unruly under her red and white ball cap and she wore fingerless gloves and skater shoes.

            “N come on, the cafeteria’s serving pudding and cake!” the girl said, and then spotted Sarah. “Well come on, before they’re all out!”

The girl grabbed both their wrists and dragged them to the cafeteria where it was indeed crowded. She bulldozed her way through and soon made it towards the front. She order a meal for three and seat herself at an available table. Bethany soon joined them, wearing a white baggy sleeveless jump suit and walking around barefooted.

            “Why’re you walking barefooted?” Sarah asked.

            “My sandals broke.” Bethany said bluntly. Rylie, Rachel and Jaya soon came in, Rachel spotting the girls cake.

            “Where’d you get that?!” Rachel asked.

            “At the counter, better hurry I think that freak- whatever his name- is getting like fifths.” The girl said. Rachel jumped up, hopped over the table with her ninja skills and bulldozed her way to the counter.

            “So who’re you two?” Jaya asked.

            “I’m N, a meister.” N said.

            “I’m his weapon Tasha.” The girl, Tasha, said.

            “He you look like Ash from pokemon.” Sarah said.

            “Yeah ya do.” Bethany said.

            “WHAT SO YOUR SAYING I LOOK LIKE A GUY HUH?! GOTTA PROBLEM WITH HOW I DRESS, JUST CAUSE I’M AN UNDEVELOPED CHILD?!” Tasha yelled angrily, her hat falling off her head as she bolted up. Everyone at the table fell silent, Tasha still fuming till she plopped back into her chair.

            “I advice you don’t say that…” N said.

Everyone agreed, Tasha soon smiling and continuing with her food. They stayed quiet till racing footsteps echoed through the now quiet room. Marie was there now, sweating from the long run. She stopped at their table and tried catching her breath.

            “Wha-what is it Marie?” Rylie asked.

            “Shinigami-sama ~pant~ wants to ~gasp~ see you all!” Marie said. The group got up and headed for Shinigami-sama’s office. Marie stayed behind so she could catch her breath and eat the cake or pudding. They arrived to Shinigami-sama’s who was currently looking over an unconscious student, a team of Spartoi.

            “Jackie!!” Rachel said the group racing to Shinigami-sama’s side.

            “What happened?!” N asked.

            “Jackie was found just outside Death Cities entrance, she’s horribly injured.” Shinigami-sama said. “She was able to say that everyone on team Spartoi was captured. She was able to slip away barely.”

            “Yasmine did this?” Sarah asked with disbelief. Jackie was horribly maimed large gashes down her arms, scratches, bruises and a bite mark on her neck. Sarah trembled slightly, N saying “What do we do?”

            “I’m sending you kids out to retrieve Spartoi.” Shinigami-sama said. “Yasmine has gone out of control.”

Sarah was about to deny but Jaya put a hand on her shoulder, shaking her head no. Sarah just stayed quiet, sniffling quietly.

            “Go to Medusa’s forest and locate the others.” Shinigami-sama said. “Once done, contact the teacher and they’ll put Yasmine down.”

            “YOUR GONNA KILL HER?!” Tasha asked with shock.

            “Oh no, no, just knock her out and bring her back for treating. I enjoy her company thank you very much!” Shinigami-sama said. “Now go!”

The meisters and weapon left the room, heading towards the entrance.

            “What now?” Sarah asked.

            “We retrieve the other meisters and contact the teachers.” Jaya said.

            “Yasmine’s finally coming home!” Rylie said happily. “I can’t wait!”
