Chapter One: The Rider

Chapter One: The Rider

A Chapter by Imagination-mage

“Come on Hicca, we’ll be late!” a beautiful young girl said, racing out the school doors. Said girl was racing to catch up with her, grabbing her things and stuffing them in her school bag. This girl was unusual then the rest of the girls in her school. Instead of wearing make up, she came to school with soot on her face. Instead of talking about boys, she talked about mythical beings. Instead of going to the mall to shop, she would sneak away and go to a sanctuary and sketch her life away. She was odd but beautiful, her skin sun kissed and having brown, amber hair color and lime green eyes, freckles sprinkled across her nose and having a tall hour glass body. She wore a short sleeved leaf green shirt that was pretty plain wearing baggy brown pants and fur boots. She blew the bangs from her eyes and slung her bag over her shoulder, racing out behind her friend.

“You gotta wait for me Hannah if you want me to follow!” the girl said chasing after her. Her friend had a caramel skin color, having a rather small knatted afro, held back by a bright pink bandana, wearing a short sleeved shirt that really hugged her sides and a mini skirt, knee highs on her legs and long laced up shoes. They raced down the stairs, coming to the outside world of New York.

“Come on, Hicca we’ll be the last ones there!” Hannah said, grabbing hold of her friend’s wrist making her nearly drop her things.

“Hannah, stop calling me that!” the girl said. “My name is Sirius!”

“That’s a boy name, I like your first name better Hiccup or would you like your nickname Hicca.” Hannah asked tauntingly.

Sirius, though Hiccup was her first god for saken name, glared daggers at Hannah and retorted “You want someone who can easily calculate the mass sales you’ll get at certain stores or do you wanna spend a s**t load of money on a necklace that you just had to buy.”

“That was once!!” Hannah said angrily. “Fine let’s go, Sirius.”

Hiccup, or Sirius, smiled happily at her achievement in the argument, even though Hannah was a shopaholic and the most popular girl in school. Yet she was terrible in school, mainly science, math, home economics, ect. If it wasn’t for Hiccup- err, Sirius- she would’ve been held back for two years but she helped Hannah with studying, she passed her finals with scores that boosted her into the next grade. Ever since, Hannah’s been clinging onto Hiccup (Sirius) for two years, afraid that she’d fail and be held back and have no future for college.

“Come on Hicca, let me treat you to a new shirt, pants, clothes, everything!” Hannah said.

“I’m fine with what I wear!” Hiccup said curtly. She was looking at the tools hanging on the walls, Hannah taking her wrist firmly and pulling her away, leading her to the girls section, trying to get her to try on cute dresses. Hiccup of course, pushed them away, sitting down and waiting for her friend to come back with a large pile of clothes. Hiccup sighed, leaning her head back and looking around, she spotted a couple making out over an ice cream they shared.

I’m lonely… she thought, suddenly shaking herself from her thoughts. I’m perfectly fine with being single! Yup, I’ll be alone for the rest of my life…

“Hey Hicca, which shirt?” Hannah asked holding up two cute doll shirts in front of her face. Hiccup grumbled under her breath and replied “Well the cheapest one is the one that’s fifty percent, then again the other one says buy one get the other free….The fifty percent one.”

“You seem down.” Hannah suddenly said.

“Am not, I’m perfectly fine thank you very much!” Hiccup replied curtly. “Now you gonna buy the shirt or what?”

Hannah looked at her skeptically as she walked off to pay. As she was going through her many clothes, Hiccup returned to the appliance section. She picked up a heavy duty wrench that really caught her hand and a pair of blacksmithing gloves that she thought would be put into good use in her hands.

“Your so weird.” A voice said, shocking Hiccup. Turning she found Hannah with large bags in her hands.

            “How so?” Hiccup asked.

“When shopping you buy tools, when you got an ipod you took it apart and then put it back together, always going for boyish look and never seeming interesting in boys!”

            “So?” Hiccup asked uncaringly.

“That’s not normal; you’re too much of a tomboy.” Hannah said. Hiccup only shrugged, getting this all the time. She had been herself ever since her mother passed away when she was merely three years old. Her father didn’t help with anything so she ran away when she was sixteen. She’s been missing for two years now but hasn’t told a soul, not even Hannah her closest friend. The two walked down the path, Hiccup with her hands in her pockets and looking along the many shops, Hannah humming to herself. As they were walking, Hiccup spotted someone with a broken down bike.

“Hey that guy needs help.” Hiccup said and dashed towards the biker. Hannah spotted the biker and her eyes went wide. She tried reaching out to Hiccup but she was already too far off. Hiccup approached the biker and asked “Need help?”

The biker didn’t reply so Hiccup took it in her own hands.

“Here, the wires out so it can’t connect with the motor.” Hiccup explained and joined the two together, the motorcycle roaring to life. The biker looked at her, Hiccup not really sure what he or she was going to say. The biker dug into his/her pocket and pulled out a phone, typing down a message and showing it to Hiccup.

Thank you. The phone read.

“Uh, you’re welcome.” Hiccup said rather confused. Maybe she’s mute. Thank god for technology.

Hiccup got up, about to run back to her friend till the biker grabbed her wrist and pulled her back down, forcing her to look her in the eye. She couldn’t see anything with the biker helmet on her head, covering her eyes. The biker suddenly took her hand and looked at it, finding it covered in bandages.

“Uh, I help repair vehicles all the time.” Hiccup said plainly. The biker bowed to her before boarding her motorcycle and sped off. Hiccup just remained where she was, unable to really comprehend what happened. She then felt something in her hand, looking she found a skeleton key.

“Hey wait, you gave me a key!” Hiccup called after only to be ignored.

“Hicca, Hicca shut up!” Hannah said, covering her mouth. “Just be happy that you got away with your life!”

“Why?” Hiccup asked irritably, pulling away from Hannah and glaring down at her.

“That was the Biker a killer and reaper of our town!” Hannah said. “She always kills when she has unfinished business with people!”

“I rarely know her.” Hiccup said and leaned down to Hannah’s level. “What, you got unfinished business with her?”

“Hell no!” Hannah said and took Hiccups wrist and dragged her away. Hiccup turned back, the same road now bare of any vehicles especially the Biker. She was actually looking forward to seeing her just one last time. She turned away and followed Hannah earning the release of her wrist and stuffing her hands in her pockets.

Must be a nobody like me…. Hiccup thought, not realizing she was being watched.

~ * ~

Hiccup arrived home in her apartment, throwing her bag into the corner and falling onto her small couch. She made enough money for a plain apartment, having a couch, fridge, bed and dresser for herself. In her bedroom were boxes and boxes of tools, all which she used at her job of repairing cars. She kicked off her boots and reached for the remote. She turned on her small television and flipped through the channels. She soon came to the news channel; they were interviewing a man who had escaped a mad murder apparently.

Now, your saying the Biker attacked you? The news reporter asked.

Yeah, just swooped in and tried slicing my head clean off with a scythe! The victim said, he still had sweat rolling down his face. Barely escaped too!

How interesting. The reporter said and turned his gaze back to the camera. The biker appears to be targeting humans now, no longer criminals like it used to. This is Paul McCartney with the news, back to you Clair.

Hiccup then tuned out the voices, pulling out a large mythology book she kept under the couch. She hid it away when guests were over, they made fun of her.

“Okay, I was on the page of mystery class creatures.” Hiccup said and switched off the lights. She had this habit of turning off all the lights, bringing light with the many candles she had and having a mug filled with hot chocolate. She found her place, getting her high lighter ready and read.

“The Deadly Nadder is a dragon which depends on it’s over sized head and large wings. Its blind spot is right in front of its nose, due to the large horn on its head.” Hiccup read, she suddenly heard tapping at her window. She closed the book, getting up slowly and cautiously walking towards the window. She picked up a large wrench from the shelf, making her way towards the window. She pulled up the blinds and looked outside, it was getting dark. She opened her window and stuck her head out, the wind blowing by and letting her short hair blow. Something fast and black zipped by her window making her loose her balance and tumble over, the gigantic wrench in her hand nearly colliding with her head if she hadn’t rolled out of the way. She quickly got back up and looked back out, seeing nothing.

“What was that?” Hiccup asked herself before returning inside.

Hey Yazzy~ do you think you could draw a picture of Hannah so I could know what she look's like? You did that with Dreki, Hiccup and this one other person I haven't gotten to yet. Could you?
But yeah, aside from that, I love, love, LOVED it! Keep it up! (Have to read the rest later.....)
