Chapter Twenty Three

Chapter Twenty Three

A Chapter by Imagination-mage

The next morning Rylie had found herself in front of her bedroom door. She blinked a few times to get her vision back.

“Ow, my head.” Rylie moaned, rubbing her head. She pushed herself up and rubbed her head, looking around. That was when last nights events came rushing back to her all at once. She shot up, wobbling to the side a bit but she was able to catch herself before she crashed to the floor.

Oh no, Patricia!! Rylie thought and tried making her way to the door.

“Hey.” A voice said, making Rylie jump. She turned, Bethany seemed to have woken up, bags under her eyes and her hair an untangled mess. Black and White Mokona were sleeping on her stomach, soon rolling off when she rose. Rylie released a sigh of relief, something she forgot Bethany and herself shared the same room. Bethany and the two Mokona’s faces were rather red, showing that they were drunk.

            “A-Are you drunk?” Rylie asked.

“…Eh?!” the three responded rather loudly. Rylie tried shushing them while trying to hold back laughter. The three looked at her until suddenly breaking out in laughter as well. Bethany fell back and pointed up towards the ceiling “I see stars.”

“B-mel go back to sleep.” Rylie said through giggles.

“I saw…a dragon…and you~” Bethany cooed, Rylie freezing in place. Rylie walked towards Bethany and sat on the edge of her bed, asking “Me with a dragon, what’d it look like?”

Bethany’s drunken fell upon Rylie, looking serious all of a sudden. She released a belch, soon laughing along with the Mokona’s but replied “A bat told me…”

            “A bat?” Rylie asked.

Bethany pointed to a hanger, only to reveal and blackened bat hanging upside down already asleep. Rylie cringed, feeling a little exposed.

“The bat saw something crash and you chase after it…” Bethany said, smiling a bit. She gave a great big yawn and turned over while mumbled “Shouldn’t go near….~hiccup~ giant lizards…”

            “Why not?” Rylie asked.

“Dragon…Queen…make her…upset….” Bethany said before suddenly falling asleep. Rylie only looked at Bethany’s back and realized she had to be more careful. She rose from the bed and placed the covers over Bethany so she wouldn’t catch a cold. Rylie soon got ready for a shower.

Rylie soon realized she preferred the new armor the king was king enough to let her use then the clothes the maids gave her when she first arrived. She strapped her guns in place and made her way out. She opened the doors and inhaled the morning air, completely purified.

“Your rather early.” A voice said making her jump. She turned only to find Soul. She released a sigh and said “You scared me.”

“I can tell.” Soul said, Rylie noticing the basket full of vegetables.

“Where’re you heading off to?” Rylie asked.

“I have to feed the horse.” Soul said, about to walk past her.

“WAIT NO!” Rylie said, gripping his arm and pulling him. Soul looked at her in shock and asked “What, I do this every morning.”

“U-Uh, I was just wondering if I…could go with you.” Rylie said.

“There’s nothing exciting about feeding horses.” Soul said, laughing hollowly to himself.

“Well, I’ve always wanted to, ride one.” Rylie said.

Soul looked at her wide eyed but replied “If I didn’t know better, I would’ve sworn you were hiding something.”

Rylie flinched but the mischievous grin on souls face only made her face glow red. Soul handed her the basket and replied “I’ll give you thirty minutes.”

With that he walked off and returned inside, calling “I’ll be polishing the armor, takes me thirty minutes to finish.”

Rylie thanked her lucky stars and dashed off to the stables. Once there she only came across another dead horse, showing that Patricia had gotten hungry. She found the beast in the same place as last night. Patricia couldn’t sit still when she spotted Rylie. She bounded around the broken down shed and soon pounced on Rylie, licking her face happily.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m happy to see you too!” Rylie said. “But we gotta move now.”

She set the basket of vegetables down and motioned for the dead horse.

“Take that too!” Rylie said, Patricia biting down onto the throat and walked alongside Rylie. Rylie remained in front, peering over the stables that concealed them for the time being and looked around. The forest wasn’t far away but it’d take forever with Patricia and the dead horse.

“Come on, come on.” Rylie said, pulling at the dead horse to make Patricia move.  Walking along the open plains, they looked around for prying eyes just to make sure no one would spot them. It was still early and the farmers weren’t even out yet. Patricia chewed along the horse’s throat, grumbling irritably because she couldn’t enjoy it in peace. Patricia soon stopped completely and tried eating at the corpse but Rylie pulled at the limb.

“Patricia, come on!” Rylie urged, pulling with all her might. She heard a sickening crack soon flying off her feet and landing on her behind. Patricia laughed, well made a grumbling noise that sounded like laughing, and commenced eating her food. Rylie gritted her teeth.

She uses her cuteness to her advantage!! Rylie said. Just as she was about to scold her, she suddenly heard whistling. Looking into the distance, Soul was making his way towards the stables.

“Crap its Soul!!” Rylie said, her hands in her hair. She quickly tucked the dismembered limb under her arm, grabbing hold of Patricia’s food and pulled it along, Patricia following. They made it inside the woods, Rylie’s hands becoming sore from gripping onto the corpse for so long but eventually stumbled upon a cave. Patricia tackled her, dragging Rylie away from her spoil and bringing her meal inside the cave.

“Well sorry!” Rylie said irritably. Crossing her arms, Rylie turned away from Patricia. Patricia soon emerged from the cave, sitting beside Rylie and licking her cheek. Rylie turned back and Patricia gave her large puppy dog eyes that made Rylie want to melt. Rylie scratched under Patricia’s chin and said “Just stay here.”

Patricia whined but remained where she was. Rylie broke through the bushes, only to crash into Soul the two falling over and rolling down the hill. Once they stopped they stopped in a large puddle, both completely soaked.

            “Ow…” Soul mumbled.

            “S-Sorry.” Rylie said.

“I-It’s no problem, just a bruise.” Soul replied. He pushed back his bangs which were clinging to his face and helped himself up, soon after helping Rylie.

            “Need help?” Rylie asked.

“Well, I was gonna go fishing.” Soul replied, raising an eye brow. “You think you can handle it?”

“I got swallowed by a troll and took out a pack of ligers; I think I can handle fishing.” Rylie bragged.

Soul only smirked, showing his shark like teeth and led the way to his fishing spot. As Soul turned back to Rylie, he noticed the water peeling off her and forming drops in the air. They fell back into the pond but Rylie failed to notice.

“What?” Rylie asked, catching his stare.

“Nothing.” Soul said and gently touched her nose. “Just noticed that you have adorable features.”

Rylie’s face went red as she followed, soon appearing to a fishing spot. Soul took out a dagger and asked “Did you bring your guns?”

            “Yeah?” Rylie said.

“Great, let’s get started.” Soul said and dived into the pond with Rylie coming after.

So, did Soul even notice the missing horses? You'd think that would be kind of a big deal. Maybe fishing is just that important there. Well, anyway, another good chapter, 4 left for them to keep almost dying. It's become pretty common for them.
