Chapter EighteenA Chapter by Imagination-mage“Please…have a seat…” Kamui said, sitting at a dinning table with Subaru sitting next to him. The door was closed behind Bethany and she tried pushing them back open, but the unreliable maid locked the door. Bethany cursed and cursed while pounding her fists on the door. “OPEN THE @#$% DOOR!” Bethany cried. She heard tut-tutting from the twins who were both sipping out of golden goblets. When they set their goblets down, Subaru said “Such a dirty mouth.” “Well pardon my frustration!” Bethany said angrily. “Why’d you call me in here?!” “We we’re lonely…” Subaru said innocently. “That and our donors are dead.” Kamui said, leaning back on his chair. Bethany backed into the door. “I’m not becoming your stupid donor!” Bethany said bitterly. “You have no choice!” Kamui said back. “What we want, we get and what we want is you.” The door then cracked open, Rylie being shoved in with Bethany and the door slamming behind her, Bethany desperately trying to pry it open with Rylie assisting her. “What’s the meaning of this?!” Rylie asked angrily. “I want out now!” “Well these two want our blood.” Bethany said bluntly. “Oh god this is Twilight all over again except with no sparkling vampires.” Rylie said, she said the last part rather quietly though. Kamui was impatient, he stood up from his seat and said “I’m tired of waiting, dinner is served!” His eyes glowed, showing his cat like pupils and golden eyes. His fangs showed and he hissed as he charged. The two girls screamed in sheer terror, quickly parting and running separate directions. Kamui slammed into the door, growling angrily as he rubbed his shoulder in pain. Rylie ducked under the table Subaru was sitting at, sipping his drink calmly. “I’ll join you once I’m finished.” Subaru said. Kamui was too busy chasing after Bethany who had to defend herself with a chair. Kamui’s nails grew long in length, swiping the chair from her hands, it shattered. He went in to bite her neck, but with the chunk of wood she had in her hands, Bethany stuffed it in his mouth and pushed him over, running under the table as well. Rylie shushed her, both trembling. Kamui went to Subaru, out of breath. “Done yet?” Kamui asked impatiently. “Yes actually, it’s quite enjoyable watching you trying to capture your prey.” Subaru said, sipping the last of his drink. He flipped the table Rylie and Bethany were under and the two brothers hissed, their nails extending. They swiped at the two girls who scattered. Rylie grabbed onto the curtains and pulled them down, making them fall onto top of Subaru. She grabbed the curtain rail, slamming it down on the lump that was Subaru. “Ow, that really hurts!” Subaru said, ripping his way out. “Good!” Rylie screamed, swatting at him but he instantly caught it and broke the rail in two, disarming Rylie. Rylie fell back, Bethany was there hitting him over the head with a large chair. Kamui tackled her and the two rolled to the floor. Bethany was on top, punching mindlessly. Rylie ran to her aid, grabbing a piece of wood that was shaped into a stake and was about to stab Kamui, Subaru grabbing her by the head about to bite her neck. The lights suddenly came on, all four teenagers freezing in place. The king stood before them, looking shocked. “What is the meaning of this?!” the king asked, three maids behind him. The maids came in, separated the four teenagers. “One of your maids tried to serve us as dinner!” Bethany said angrily. She pointed an accusing finger at the one who led her there, making her flinch. She found no use in lying and said “It is true sire…” “Then you shall be the new donor.” The king said angrily and turned to his sons. “As for you two, return to your rooms!” “But dad!” Kamui said but was cut off. “NOW!” the king said, trying to contain anger. The two retreated to their bedrooms, angrily huffing on the way out. The king turned to the girls and said “I am terribly sorry that you were tricked. Whenever a donor dies, the maids take evasive action.” “I guess its okay…” Rylie said. “But I’d like to get back to sleep.” Bethany looked at Rylie in disbelief but Rylie dragged her back to their room. Once the door was closed and locked, Bethany suddenly blurted “What was that?! I guess its okay, we were almost killed!” “Just calm down!” Rylie said. “Bethany we have no place to go, this place is the only safe haven here, aside from the vampires. We need to find our friends and get back home!” “So we use their hospitality for our own good?” Bethany asked. “Sure let’s go with it.” “Besides, the king needs some help with fending off his overly affectionate sons.” Rylie said. “They think we’re just a one way ticket to dinner, we’ll make their lives hell!” “I’m enjoying this; give them a taste of their own medicine.” Bethany said. “Okay let’s stay.” “Knew you’d love being evil!” Rylie said high fiving and cackling deviously. They straightened themselves out before going into the bed. Bethany closed the window, locking it just in case the boys really craved their blood. Bethany went to bed, not bothering to say goodnight to Rylie since she passed out already. She threw the comforter over her and soon fell asleep when her head hit the pillow. * * * * * The next morning the two were given new clothes, their old ones thrown away because they were rags and too far from being repaired. They both wore baggy, silky shirts and white pants swaying at their ankles, Greek sandals on their feet as they made their way to the dining room. The king had left a note stating that he would be out for the whole day and that his sons were asleep. They were free to explore the castle and leave whenever they felt like it. They opened the doors, coming into the dining room where food was already prepared on two plates. They sat down and began to feast on eggs, bacon and sausages. “So we have the whole castle to ourselves, what do ya wanna do?” Rylie asked. “Let’s check out the garden!” Bethany said. “I saw something there when we were passing it.” After eating, they ran for the garden excitedly. They came to the garden but were sadly welcomed by rain, pouring down on the garden. Rylie’s shoulders slumped and she turned to Bethany and said sarcastically “Wow…this is just wonderful.” “It was awesome a moment ago.” Bethany said. They were about to head back inside till they heard a branch snap making them stop. They turned back, seeing a shadowed figure in the tallest tree. “Let’s leave.” Bethany said bluntly about to run back inside till Rylie gripped her arm and held her back. “Let’s check it out!” Rylie said excitedly. “Look Rylie I know you wanna see what’s in that tree but I have a feeling that if we do, something bad is gonna happen.” Bethany said bluntly. Rylie didn’t seem to care as she dragged Bethany outside, both getting soaked by the heavy rain till they approached the tree. When they were only a few feet from it, Bethany stopped. “You can go on ahead and get your head eaten; I’m staying a good safe distance of twenty feet.” Bethany said. “Fine, I’ll just see the awesome thing that lives in the tree.” Rylie said, leering at Bethany as she went under the tree. Bethany turned back retuning to the shelter of the castle, not really caring that her clothes now carried water inside. Rylie looked up at the shadowed figure in the tree, trying to get a better look at it. When she couldn’t really make out what it was, she began climbing the tree. She was slightly blinded by the falling rain drops seeping through the trees bushy umbrella and soon reached the figure. She grabbed onto it getting a loud yelp making her scream and release. Rylie lost her balance and fell backwards, the figure fell with her. The two fell in the rose bush next to it, Bethany running to their need containing laughter. “You looked pretty stupid falling from that height.” Bethany said, helping Rylie out. Rylie groaning in pain, tiny scratches covered any part of revealing skin. A hand was attached to her wrist as Bethany yanked her out, pulling out a boy as well as Rylie. The two landed on the soggy grass with a loud slosh, both breathing heavily. “Whoa, who’s your boyfriend?” Bethany asked referring to the boy sprawled on top of her. Rylie moved her head, the boy picking himself up till they made eye contact, Rylie’s blue orbs looking into the boy’s blood red ones. “I-I’m really sorry.” He said suddenly, getting up and soon helping Rylie up. He wore a white long sleeved buttoned up shirt with black jeans on, bulky boots on his feet, his hair was pure white pulled back with a black headband. He dazed off into the grey clouds as Rylie soon picked herself up. “Wha-what were you doing up there?” Rylie asked. “I was picking rain drops off the speckled fruit growing on that tree.” He replied, holding up a small pouch filled with round drops of rain. “I don’t think they’re quite ripe yet though…” “You eat those?” Bethany asked. “Yeah, they’re really delicious little snacks.” The boy said, handing one to Bethany and Rylie. “Try one, it won’t kill you.” He ate one as well to show it wasn’t poisoned. The two put the small drops in their mouths and chewed on the small things. They were squishy and exploded in their mouths once their teeth bit down on them sending carbonated flavors into their mouths. The two girls savored at the taste, the boy smiling at them. “My names Soul Eater Evans, what’s yours?” the boy, Soul, asked. “I’m Bethany.” Bethany replied. “I’m Rylie, nice to meet you.” Rylie said. “Oh you’re the new guests the king brought in, I’m terribly sorry about last night.” Soul said. “You know about that?” Bethany asked, her face blushing. “Yeah, anything juicy that happens in the castle never stays a secret to the servants. It always gets out somehow.” Soul said. “But don’t worry; it dies down like all the gossip in this kingdom does.” Rylie suddenly sneezed, Soul realizing how much of a bad idea it was to stand out in the rain. He handed Bethany the pouch of rain drops and picked Rylie up bridal style back inside. Rylie’s face heated up madly as he carried her back inside, Bethany following. Once they were inside, Soul got them towels and dried their hair. “I’m so stupid to let you guys stay out there like that, I’m sorry.” Soul said, handing them both robes once their hair was dried. “What about you?” Rylie asked. “Well I’m not done with my outdoor chores, so there’d be no point in drying myself then going back outside.” Soul replied. “I’ll see you two later.” Soul dashed back outside, the rain blowing in his face as he opened the door then running out. Rylie caught him smile a rather creepy one with his unusually shark like teeth. But as he disappeared through the door, she let out a sigh. “So, you gonna hook up with Soul?” Bethany asked slyly. “Of course but I wanna get to know him more.” Rylie said then suddenly panicked. “What if he already has girlfriend?!” “I highly doubt that, he doesn’t seem found of the maids around here.” Bethany said and leaned in till she was whispering. “They’re like freakin’ androids around here.” Right on cue, a maid passed by, looking them over and saying “I’ll run a bath for the two of you, follow me.” The maid led them back to their rooms, getting the baths ready and setting out their shampoos and soaps. Rylie and Bethany simply watched as she set out their clothes and made up their beds. The maid left not giving the two time to say thanks. Rylie went into the bathroom, Bethany going in and the two stripped, jumping into the warm water and just relaxing. “You’re right about one thing B-mel.” Rylie said, scrubbing herself in. “What would that be?” Bethany asked. “This castle is weird; the only normal ones are Soul and the twin vampires.” Rylie said. “It’s like everyone here is an android.” “That’s creepy Rylie; it’ll end up like those brainwashing horror films on T.V.” Bethany said. The two finished, drying off and changing into new clothes that was exactly the same as before. Bethany hopped onto her bed, the sheets flying up then coming back down while Rylie sat on the window sill, gazing into the rain. “They’re hiding something I bet!” Rylie suddenly said. “Doubt it, this whole castle’s just weird, case closed, lets forget it and raid the kitchen.” Bethany said. “Bet you they have the biggest tubs of ice cream here!” “Stop thinking about food, what are you pregnant?!” Rylie asked frustratingly. “Hopefully not.” Bethany said bluntly, soon sighing in defeat. “So great and powerful Rylie, what’s your master plan?” “We snoop around the castle when everyone’s asleep.” Rylie said. “Can’t do that, remember vampires?” Bethany said. “They won’t get us; it’ll be like a game of cat and mouse.” Rylie said. “Except we’ll be the cat and they’ll be the mice.” Rylie said. “Plus it’ll be during the day unless the steak outs desperately call for night snooping.” Bethany nodded, soon replying “Fine, fine, but I’m serious about the ice cream raiding.” “We’ll get to that now.” Rylie said with a laugh. She got up and followed Bethany outside of the room till they heard a loud, banshee scream. They spotted the maids running past them screaming “TROLL, TROLL, TROLL!” “Troll?” Bethany asked, till she was seized by the arm and pulled down the hall. Rylie was no where in sight.
Rylie was currently being swept away in a crowd of panicking servants. She fell to the floor and the thudding of feet faded. She got up, rubbing her head and saying “Bethany?” She looked around, realizing she was utterly alone. She rose from her spot and timidly went to the wall. The ground rumbled, Rylie slowly turning and finding a giant shadow stalking the walls. She quickly ran behind the corner, peeking her head out just a bit. She spotted an ugly creature with a large belly and large legs, his arms rather thin and his giant arms clutching a large club, giant ears and a tiny head. It sniffed the curtain and ate it, expecting it to a food apparently. As it passed, Rylie quickly ran down the hall. She then bumped into a broad chest, being seized by the arms and pulled into the shadows. “Are you crazy?!” her captor asked. Looking up it was only Soul, he was pressed up against the wall and clutching Rylie tightly. “Where’s everyone gone?” Rylie asked. “To the garden, I’m looking for the young masters.” Soul said. “Where’s Bethany?” Rylie asked. Soul only shrugged and the two quickly ran in search of the twins and Bethany. © 2011 Imagination-mageReviews
