Chapter SeventeenA Chapter by Imagination-mageRylie and Bethany were plummeting through the grey skies of Zelda, gripping each others hands seeing their lives flash before their eyes. They then fell in water, a stream rushing them towards a waterfall. “OH HOLY MOTHER OF @#$%!!” Bethany screamed on the way down, Rylie shouting every cuss word that was in her vocabulary. It took some time for the two of them to feel land and they had long passed out from fear and exhaustion. Rylie coughed, feeling the dirt on her face as she rose. She looked around; they were in a rice field. Rylie wiped the dirt from her face, only making it worse and shook Bethany awake. Bethany woke up and asked “Are we dead?” “Are you in hell?” Rylie asked. “Well every time I look at your face I am.” Bethany joked weakly and the two laughed halfheartedly. Bethany picked herself up and picked off a leech that was sucking on her calf. “Where are we?” Bethany asked. “I don’t know.” Rylie said bluntly. “I only remember that damn door eating us! Wait, where’re the others?” Rylie dug through her pocket but found her phone gone; Bethany wasn’t carrying her phone from the beginning. Rylie kicked a rock and began to curse some more in frustration. “Look lets just look for some civilization and then we’ll have a hissy fit later.” Bethany said, grabbing Rylie’s flailing arms and dragging her on. It didn’t really matter where they went because they had no idea where they were. Rylie then spotted lights in the distance and began to run, Bethany close behind. They saw a mob of people carrying torches and walking around till the two girls collided with a tall man. “Oh god thank goodness, we’re saved!” Rylie said happily hugging this random man. “Oh uh, where did you two come from?” the man asked. Bethany and Rylie pointed towards the sky and everyone followed their fingers. The man looked down at the two and said “Are you sure?” “Yes, now before you send us to a nut house let me just tell you that we are mere victims!!” Bethany said. “Yeah, we were sent here by accident.” Rylie said. “Well I think it was by accident.” The man looked at them as if peering into their soul and then smiled. He turned to the mob and said “I need two volunteers to take these two girls to the king.” Two hands raised in the back, two girls looking identical with long brown hair tied in large buns slung over their shoulders, looking like dolls. They approached Rylie and Jaya, the man saying “These are my daughters Chi and Nadeshiko; they’ll escort you to the king.” The two girls took a hand from either Bethany or Rylie and walked off in the other direction while the mob moved on, their torches soon fading in the night. As they walked through the rice fields, Bethany turned back and found the mob gone. “Where’d they go?” Bethany asked. “To strengthen the barriers.” Nadeshiko said. “Barriers, what’re they for?” Rylie asked. “To keep the Dragons away.” Chi responded, sounding like an android. The two girls led them into a rather large place, obviously a kingdom as they made their way to a medieval castle that stood atop the hills, covered in trees and the clouds rolling past the towers. They walked up a spiral staircase and came to a giant iron door. Chi knocked on the door four times until the doors creaked open, letting them in. They were welcomed by brilliant lights, as if the sun came in here at night. They walked down a red carpet, armor decorating the walls and a row of chandeliers hanging on the ceiling. A fountain was in the center making a round-about that led to different rooms. They came to a golden staircase making Bethany and Rylie sigh miserably. When they reached the top, they came to golden doors which opened automatically for them. They were greeted by an old man sitting in a tall thrown with a large golden crown on his head, maids on each side of him. His long white beard and appearance made Rylie think of a wizard as he looked down at them through his spectacles. “What do you bring me?” he asked. The two girls bowed along with Bethany and Rylie. “Sir these two claim to have fallen from the sky.” Chi said. “They must be the great warriors that the prophecy has told us about. But we wish to make sure.” The king stood, one of the maids coming to his aid and helping him towards them. He looked down at Rylie, feeling through her hair and lifting her face up. Rylie tried avoiding eye contact till he moved to Bethany and did the same. Once done, he turned back to the twins and said “You are positive these mistresses fell from the sky?” “That’s what they say.” Nadeshiko said. “Well they resemble the warriors very much, please leave us so I may have a private conversation.” The king said. “They will stay with me until further notice.” Nadeshiko and Chi rose and left the room, the maids following. Bethany and Rylie were beginning to get cramps from bowing. “Rise.” The king said, returning to his throne. Bethany and Rylie stood up, their spines popped, making the atmosphere in the room feel awkward. “Tell me how you got here.” the king asked. “Well, we were trapped in a basement with our other friends who appear to be missing and one of our friends named Rachel finishes some writing that was on the door. The door suddenly ate us.” Bethany said. “Like literally ate us, next thing we know we’re falling from the sky!” Rylie said. “That doesn’t happen unless Monarch uses that type of magic.” The king said. “Monarch, who’s Monarch?” Rylie asked. “She is queen of Pandora, my rival apparently.” The king said tiredly. “I’ve tried everything to make peace with her and the dragons but nothing seems to be working. I have no choice but to start a war.” “Excuse me, not trying to be rude or anything.” Bethany said. “But how do Rylie and I get sucked into this?” “You are the warriors that we have been waiting for; you will help us take over Edolas.” The king said. The girls looked at him like he was crazy. Rylie was the first to laugh and said “Yeah right, I can punch but I can’t fight.” “Neither can I.” Bethany said. “Sorry but you have the wrong girls.” The king was about to say more till the doors burst open, his two sons fighting with one another. The king sighed miserably as they made their way towards he king, both having a bloody nose. “He punched me!” they both said. They were twins it looked, both with black short hair, golden eyes and wearing tuxedos. The two boys wore matching long golden necklaces that resembled crescent moons. Bethany and Rylie checked the two out, they were rather cute. One of them caught their stare and nudged the other in the side, eyeing the two girls. “Father…you didn’t tell us we had guests.” One said. “And cute ones at that.” The other said, making the two blush. The king massaged his forehead and said “I told the maids that I wished to be alone.” “Yeah, well we’re not maids.” One said and turned back to the girls. “My name is Subaru.” “And I am Kamui.” Kamui said. “We’re twins as you can see.” “And vampires.” Subaru said bluntly. The two girls stared at the boys as they just smiled. The king sighed and said “Kamui was bitten by a vampire when he was five, being able to contain it for five years before attacking Subaru.” “Like the brute he is.” Subaru said until he was nudged in the side by him. “Please, stay with us.” Kamui said stepping in front of Subaru and taking Bethany’s hands. “We don’t mind the extra company.” “Oh you’re too kind.” Bethany said taking her hand back. “Yeah, I mean what’s greater being invited by sexy vampires.” Rylie said jokingly getting the two boys to blush. The king chuckled and said “But seriously, we’d like you two to stay until we can find a way for you to return home.” “Thank you, really.” Rylie said. Two maids came back out, leading the two out of the king’s room. Going through the halls and coming to tall white doors, the maids opened the doors. They were welcomed to two twin beds, a white dresser leaning against the wall; see through curtains fluttering in the wind and the smell of cucumber melon in the air. The two girls dashed inside, jumping on the bed and happy to feel such a cloud like mattress. “Oh my god this is amazing…” Bethany said, sinking into the dress. “We must go over some rules before you slumber.” One of the maids said. “The twin masters always stir at night thanks to their vampire blood; they often wonder the halls in search of their donors.” “Okay so don’t go out in the halls at night.” Rylie said. “At ten, every night.” The other maid said. “You should be asleep and whatever you do, do not open the door.” “The boys will find a way in, especially since there’s new blood in the castle.” One maid said. “Aside from that, good night.” “There will be new clothes for you in the morning, there are night clothes in the bathroom and your baths are ready.” With that the maids left, closing the door behind them and locking it. Rylie got up from the bed and looked out the window, rubbing one eye. “What a strange place.” Rylie said. “But it’s nice to finally have life on pause.” “Yeah, I’m tired.” Bethany said falling back and landing in the pillow. She began sinking into the cloud like mattress, burying her face in the pillow. Rylie threw a pillow at her and said “At least bathe first!” Groaning angrily, Bethany went off to bathe leaving Rylie alone. Rylie was sitting on the window sill, pushing open the windows so the wind could come in and cool off her heated skin. The night sky was delightfully beautiful and the moon reminded Rylie of home, she sniffled she missed home…and her friends. Bethany had finished bathing in the bathroom, coming out with a towel wrapped around her head to let her long hair dry. “Your turn.” Bethany said, tossing her a towel. The maids were kind enough to lend the two new clothes for the night, wearing a silk nightdress with fluffy pin slippers on her feet. Rylie took the towel and went into the bathroom, steam covered the mirror, lavender and jasmine scented soaps on the rim of the giant bathtub. There were two, one Bethany used obviously because it was drained and the other was still steaming. Rylie went in, all the tension in her body leaving as soon as she felt the heat of the water take her. Back with Bethany, she was drying her hair, sitting on the window sill that Rylie was sitting on, combing out her hair and gazing at the moon. A flock of doves flew by the moon, Bethany instantly thinking about Yasmine’s preposterous dream of flying like a bird. Bethany finished combing and drying her hair out till she heard a knock at the door. She turned to the snow white door, the knocking beating repeatedly. “Hello?” Bethany called; she wasn’t technically opening the door. “Hello, young guest!” a maid urgently called. “The king wishes to speak with you!” Bethany thought it over, the maids pacifically said not to open the door at night because the twins roamed the castle at night in search of their donors. Bethany rose from the window sill and approached the door. Rylie was still in the bathroom, bathing, so she’d be safe if Bethany was tricked. Bethany took the handle and jerked the door open, welcomed to one of the maids. She was out of breath and was rather pale. “Can I help you?” Bethany asked nervously. “The king wants to speak with you now!” the maid said, taking Bethany’s wrist and dragging her back to the throne room. “But what about Rylie?” Bethany asked. “Another maid will get her once she’s cleansed, please hurry!” the maid said. They made it back to the throne room, the maid was exhausted because she was doing most the running and dragging Bethany the whole way. She released Bethany and said “You must speak with him…” Bethany looked up at the giant golden doors, gulping and soon pushing them open, not really expecting this…
