Chapter Twelve

Chapter Twelve

A Chapter by Imagination-mage

Brandt was in his room, the door locked and laying his head on his desk. He looked at his designs and rolled his pencil all over his desk. He sighed miserably as he remembered the angered expression Sarah showed to him the night before also shocked that he actually caught a glance of the Dragon Queen. Getting up he walked towards his door and listened, his dad wasn’t home. He tried opening the door and of course it was locked so he snuck out like he did everyday. There was a tall tree next to his window and he only had to jump and grab onto a branch. He climbed down and looked around, seeing ships setting sail to gather food from the farther side of Toradora. He walked steadily at first, and then sprinted off into the woods. He turned back to make sure he wasn’t seen. He turned and nearly screamed when he came face to face with the person he really didn’t want to see. She was the fairest teenage girl in Berk, her flowing long blond hair, bright blue eyes and rosy red cheeks. She wore her battle armor as usual and her bangs covered one eye.

“Hi, Mimi.” Brandt said, receiving a punch in the head.

“It’s Mickey, my friends call me Mimi.” Mickey said bitterly. “Emphasis on friends.”

“Yes, yes I get it.” Brandt said.

“Aren’t you grounded because of last night?” Mickey asked.

            “Yup.” Brandt said bluntly.

            “You’re running away?” Mickey asked.

“No I left something back here and I really needed it.” Brandt lied. Mickey looked at him, suspicious.

            “What was it?” Mickey asked.

“My notebook, I need it for an essay.” Brandy lied again, he had years of practice. “About my behavior last night.”

Mickey glared at him and showed him her battle axe making him flinch. Seeing the terror in his eyes made her smile. She put it to his neck and said “Don’t hide anything from your fiancé.”

“Like I would.” Brandt said, pushing it back before he came back with a scar. “I really need that notebook, catch ya later?”

Mickey strapped her axe back on her back and left without a word. Brandt exhaled and nearly crumbled to his knees. Mickey was the toughest woman in Berk and he was apparently so lucky to be her husband to be by eighteen. He walked off into the woods in search of the dragons he spotted last night, knowing he’d find Sarah as well. He walked aimlessly in the woods and left marks on trees with a small dagger he always carried. Looking around and smelling the air for anything burnt he groaned in frustration.

“Ugh, how am I capable of losing a dragon?!” Brandt nearly screamed. He stepped on a rock and bumped his foot. He looked down and saw black dragon scales, a few small splashes of blood on the trees, he tip-toed down a steep hill, ducking down when he came to a large rock. He peeked over and saw the most bizarre thing. A large reptile that was sleek and black, large bat wings folded back and an oval head and long flab’s for ears. It sniffed at the ground, soon taking a plant and roaring softly enough as if a whisper.

“I’m coming.” A voice called. Brandt followed the voice, only to see Sarah sprout from the bushes with a basket full of herbs. Her boots muddy as she made her way towards the dragon. Brandt’s eyes went wide as Sarah scratched it under the chin like a puppy.

She’s one of them…. Brandt thought. The dragon then turned towards him, growling angrily and tensing up. Sarah looked over and asked “What is it?”

She pulled out her sword and braced herself as the dragon pounced. The dragon bit into Brandt’s shoulder and pulled him out. Brandt punched it hard in the neck, his arms surprisingly strong and causing the beast to let go. He pulled out a dagger and pointed it at the dragon who stayed a distance.

“What are you doing here?!” Sarah shrieked.

“I came here to kill the dragon I shot but I can’t do that either.” Brandt said, not letting his eyes off the dragon. Sarah kicked the dagger out of his hands and stood between the dragon and Brandt.

“You’re coming with us!” Sarah said. Brandt pulled himself away and said “No way, I’m getting the others!”

Sarah then let out a banshee scream and soon Brandt was surrounded by dragons, suddenly realizing that the queen had sent a party with her. Brandt froze as Sarah grabbing him firmly by the wrist and growled “Let’s go!”

Brandt was being herded by eight dragons who kept their eyes on them. Sarah led the way, Brandt suddenly noticing she had a new change of clothes. She wore a long black over coat and a conductor’s hat on top, wearing a black suit and tie under, her hair tucked under the hat. She was leading them deeper and deeper into the forest, the trees becoming denser and the sun barely leaking through the trees leaves. As Sarah pulled a branch, she released it and it slapped Brandt across the eye making him screech. The dragons around him grumbled, sounding like they were laughing at him. Brandt glared and mumbled “Hope you all go to hell.”

The black sleek one turned around, his tail whipping him in the torso and knocking him over, making him land on his backside soon the beast was growling at him baring his teeth.

“Hiccup!” Sarah said firmly, the dragon Hiccup turning. “She wants him alive.”

“She?” Brandt asked.

The beast soon turned away and returned to Sarah’s side, the dragons pushing Brandt back up and forcing him to move on. They climbed over fallen trees, crushed boulders which were reduced to rubble and even passed by trees with large chunks of their trunks missing. Brandt shivered, it had always been a childhood dream to meet and kill the Dragon Queen; but now he was terrified. They then came to a cave, it was narrow and small, big enough to fit the dragons, but Sarah and himself had to crawl. Brandt then slipped, sliding down till he fell. As he fell he spotted a whole underground city filled with dragons sitting atop boulders, swimming in the lake that was there or eating meat from a pit they obviously dug. Brandt was caught by the ankle, soon dropped and pushed towards a shadowed figure, sitting in a pile of dragons, all their heads trying to find a place on its lap.

“Who’s this?” the voice asked, it sounded feminine. “I don’t recall a savage in the party.”

“He was spying Yasmine.” Sarah replied, and then turned to Brandt. “He used to be a friend.”

The dragons growled but the girl merely put her clawed hand up and silenced them. She stood, Sarah suddenly flinching.

“No Yasmine, sit back down!” Sarah said. “You’re wounds haven’t healed!”

“They’ve healed enough!” Yasmine, the Queen said. As she came out of the darkness, Brandt’s mouth dropped open. The queen wore the same clothes as Sarah except white, bringing out her chocolate skin color, her hair short with her bang covering her left eye, her dragon eyes yellow like a cats. Yasmine approached Brandt, limping on the way. Hiccup was by her side, helping her walk. Brandt suddenly lunged, grabbing the dagger from Sarah’s hand and shoved her to the ground. He got the knife ready and Hiccup was about to attack. Yasmine swiftly caught the blade and broke it, Brandt completely stunned. Yasmine grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground, bending his arm back.

“Trying to kill me eh?” Yasmine asked, she gave a toothy grin and her eyes flashed a bit as she pulled his arm back, seeming to find enjoyment to the restricted screams.

“Yasmine, stop!” Sarah said but it was too late, Yasmine had just broken his arm. She released him and returned to Hiccup. Brandt pushed himself up and looked at her with fear in his eyes.

“Go away…” Yasmine said and one of the dragons grabbed him by his hurt shoulder and flew back to the entrance and dropping him, swiftly returning inside. Brandt soon passed out afterwards.

“I still don’t understand how you broke your arm!” Cilan said, wrapping Brandt’s wounds. He had deep bite marks in his shoulder and had put his broken arm in a sling.

“I fell and probably landed the wrong way.” Brandt lied, he didn’t want to tell Cilan his encounter with the Dragon Queen, and she was too strong. Cilan tied the bandage tightly making Brandt cringe and slap his brother’s hand away.

            “That hurt!” Brandt said.

“Oh sorry.” Cilan said sarcastically. “Just be still, hope Sarah’s alright.”

Brandt scowled and said “Whatever, she’s better where she is.”

Cilan glared and said “And here I thought you’d make a true friend. By the way, Mickey came by.”

Brandt groaned and replied “I hate her.”

“I know but as soon as dad comes back, we’ll be home free.” Cilan said. He finished up the wrappings and soon stood back up, Brandt following him on the way to the kitchen. Cilan gracefully began making dinner, swiftly setting the bowls out, getting his utensils ready and ingredients out as well. He wrapped an apron around his waist and said “It’s Cooking Time!”

“Stop with the stupid comments.” Brandt said with a laugh. “What’s for dinner any way?”

“Today’s special is a fluffy quiche, with a delicious invisible topping; freshly cut vegetables along with clearest of water we have. Desserts a secret!” Cilan said. “Set the table little brothers, its dinner time!!”
