Chapter Six: The Meeting

Sarah happily frolicked through the haven, flying about happily. She ran into Beatrix when she wasn’t paying attention.

                “Hey watch it!” Beatrix said angrily.

                “Sorry.” Sarah said.

                “Oh, it’s only you Ninkin.” Beatrix said. “If you were someone else I would be scolding you.”

As Sarah floated about, Beatrix smiled and continued “I see that your anthro powers have awakened.”

                “Yeah, it’s so exciting!” Sarah said, flying through the room.

                “Well here’s more exciting news.” Beatrix said. “Tobi’s awake!”

Sarah stopped midway, falling and landing on the dining table knocking all the food over and having the silk table cloth bunched up on top of her. Beatrix ran to her side, pulling off the cloth and helping Sarah up.

                “Tobi’s awake, is she better?!” Sarah asked.

                “Yeah, but she still needs to stay quarantined for a couple more days so don’t tell Zorua.” Beatrix said.

Sarah flew off, towards Tasha’s room only landing on her feet to knock on the door.

                “Come in.” a voice said and the doors opened, revealing a brightly lit room. There sitting at the table was Tobi, drinking and eating with Tasha. Sarah unconsciously flew towards her and tackled her in a hug, knocking her over from her chair and skidding a few feet away.

                “TOBI YOU’RE OKAY!” Sarah screamed happily hugging Tobi.

                “Yes I am.” Tobi giggled. “But you’re on my hurt leg.”

Sarah got off and helped Tobi back to her feet. Tobi dusted herself off and continued “I only remember riding my motorcycle here and I woke up with a soaked shirt.”

                “That would be Zorua’s tears…” Tasha informed. “Jane and Suki helped me heal her by combining their healing powers, but I’d like to keep an eye on Tobi just for a couple of days.”

                “Even though I feel great.” Tobi said. “But my legs still a bit sore.”

Tobi then proceeded to stretching and popping noises erupted from her knees. Sarah and Tasha cringed at the sound as Tobi seemed rather relaxed.

                “But if Tasha’s unsure about it then I guess it’s for the best.” Tobi said then looked Sarah over. “OH MY GOSH, YOUR IN YOUR ANTHRO FORM!”

                “I KNOW RIGHT?!” Sarah said and the two squealed gleefully. Tasha just looking happy but hearing all this screaming and squealing was giving her a headache. She approached the two, putting a hand on both their shoulders and said “Please stop…”

                “Sorry Tasha, it’s always so exciting to see a rookie finally become one of us!” Tobi said hugging Sarah. “Tasha I’m just bubbling with excitement!”

                “I can tell Tobi, but you still need to stay with me.” Tasha said then turned to Sarah. “I have a mission for you.”

                “Really, what is it?!” Sarah asked excitedly.

                “Apparently, we’ve spotted three Chasers’ and they seem to be in search of our little patch of heaven.” Tasha explained. “Jane, Martin and you are going to meet up with them to see what they want.”

                “No fighting?” Sarah asked.

                “Depends if they make the first move.” Tasha said. “So you’ll leave as soon as you’re ready.”

                “I’ll stay and help organize Tasha.” Tobi said, hugging Sarah. “Working in teams is always better than working alone.”

Once the conference was over, Sarah left the room with the doors closing behind her, outside was Martin and Jane waiting for her.

                “Ready?” Martin asked.

                “Yup, I’m so excited!” Sarah said.

                “Don’t get your hopes up too high Ninkin.” Jane said. “Chasing Chasers is a dangerous job. That’s why Tasha’s sending us out in a group of three.”

                “That’s Tasha for you, always worrying about her followers.” Martin said gleefully and began to laugh. Sarah only giggled momentarily as Jane brought them to the golden gates. Tee was waiting for her there, greeting her with a hug.

                “Come back safely okay?” Tee said.

                “I will.” Sarah said.

                “You have to promise!” Tee commanded.

                “…I promise.” Sarah said and hugged him tightly. She spotted Jane and Martin doing the same, their curses seeming rather teary eyed as they left the gates and loaded up in Jane’s car. They rode off down from their safe haven and were soon engulfed by forest trees. The car came in for a sudden stop making Sarah nearly fly out of her seat. She looked ahead seeing Oz.

                “He’s the messenger?!” Sarah said angrily.

                “Yes, remember we hear him out then if he tries to kill us we kill him first.” Martin explained, getting out first. Oz approached them, the others staying close together.

                “Oz…it’s been a while.” Jane said.

                “Same goes for you.” Oz said with a rather smug smile. He then caught sight of Sarah and his smile just grew larger.

                “How interesting, you must be the newbie.” Oz said.

                “We didn’t come here to socialize!” Jane said bitterly. “You said you wanted an audience with Tasha, about what?”

                “Our lord senses a danger that threatens his mistress Tasha.” Oz said seriously.

                “His mistress?” Sarah asked, suddenly self-conscious.

                “Tasha was once this guy’s mistress but she ran away.” Jane said.

                “My master is named Shigeru; he holds powers as well but of course not as powerful as Tasha, he wishes to discuss the matter privately.” Oz explained.

                “I’m guessing the whole group will be joining us as well?” Martin asked.               

                “Yes.” Oz said.

Sarah was ready to decline but Jane suddenly replied “Alright, meet us in three hours, Tasha will be ready then.”

Oz bowed then disappeared in the forest of trees. Martin, Sarah and Jane went back inside the car, Jane starting the car and driving back to their haven.  They all loaded out of the car, once it was parked, and went to Tasha. Her doors were already open as they made their way inside, seeing Tasha giving Tobi one last check up with Zorua beside her.

                “Tasha, you have a meeting soon.” Martin said with a bow.

                “With who?” Tasha asked happily. Jane and Martin shifted in their spots, Tasha automatically understanding the situation.

                “Oh…I’ll prepare myself then…” Tasha said then turned back to Tobi who looked agitated. “Tobi you’re healed, you should tend to Zorua, he hasn’t slept for days.”         

Tobi looked over at Zorua who had fallen asleep on her thigh; she smiled and soon picked him up till he was on her lap. She hopped off the check up table, carrying Zorua and giving Tasha a hug.

                “Thank you.” Tobi said and left the room with Zorua. Tasha turned to the three, her smile still on her face as she said “Prepare yourselves, they might want a fight.”

Tasha let herself out of the room, leaving the three there. Once the large doors closed shut, Sarah finally said “Why’re they here?”

                “I don’t know.” Jane replied. “But what ever their after, we’ll protect Tasha with our life!”

Martin nodded, soon leaving the room and Jane followed. Sarah remained in the room, the lights dimming as if reacting to her mood. Sarah soon plopped down into a chair and massaged her forehead. The doors suddenly opened again, Tobi coming in looking so much healthier.  

                “It’s okay.” Tobi said plainly.

                “What if it’s not okay?” Sarah asked, getting up. “These Chasers are just here to get Tasha right?!”

                “Nope.” Tobi said plainly. Sarah looked at her rather confused, soon saying “Bu-But Suki told me that there are people after Tasha’s powers! That they wanna unleash her true form.”

                “There are people out there like that.” Tobi said. “But the Chasers are different. Yes they want Tasha but only because their leader told them to, Tasha’s lover.”

                “Lover?”  Sarah asked.

                “Yup, he’s like obsessed with her.” Tobi said. “That’s basically what the Chasers are. They latch onto one of us and never let go.”

                “They wanna get rid of our curses because they think we love them more?” Sarah guessed.

Tobi nodded her head, Tobi rubbing her eye irritably and continuing “Chasers are weird beings who can’t seem to live without us or their god. But don’t worry; they’re boys who’ll hopefully find someone new.”

Sarah squirmed in her seat, not really sure what to do. Tobi smiled brightly and found her place beside her. She patted her back and said soothingly “Everything’s gonna be alright.”
