Simple PleasuresA Poem by Kimberly MillerSimple Pleasures We often believe we find happiness in many things, People, possessions, places..... But a new idea I do bring, Perhaps look at things from someone else's pace? You might not find happiness in algebra or math, but doodling is a nice distraction. Till your mother expresses her wrath, And considers taking bold action. You might not find happiness in being ill, But perhaps something is happening, much bigger than you, So have some soup, relax and take a pill, Since God is in control, don't bother looking for a clue. You might not find happiness in getting a new book, But maybe someone cannot read, And just wants one look, They desire their imagination and inspiration to feed. You might not find happiness in flipping on a lightswitch, Or cranking up your heat, But long ago, in days of old, when many were not rich, Such people would consider this quite a treat. You might not find happiness in opening your garage door, And you wonder why I mention it at all, But I can tell you that lifting one is quite a chore, So be grateful while yours still stands tall. You might not find happiness in an abandoned penny, But, please, I beg you, pick it up, For someone wishes for many, But instead walks around with only an empty cup. © 2015 Kimberly MillerAuthor's Note
