The Ribbon Was ThereA Poem by Kimberly MillerThe Ribbon Was There The ribbon was there the day she was born Wrapped around her chubby finger Never to be shown a shred of lorn Yet always there to linger The ribbon was there when she learned to crawl And the day she learned to walk Tied up in the hair of her doll Who she then made to talk The ribbon was there when she started school And when the days were hard It lay in her fist, when the people called "cool" Left her with only a shard The ribbon was there when she graduated And said goodbye to childhood The day she stood up and traded Her schoolwork for a place with the good The ribbon was there when she got married And started life anew And although the days sometimes varied The ribbon was always in view The ribbon was there by her deathbed And she lay, life slipping away Its weathered feel now lacking and dead But still its message display Consistancy is more than just being there You need to have feeling, life, a meaning You simply need to care But perhaps there is more than just one way of thinking You see, Someone else is like this strip of cloth Always there, constant and steady He wants you to pledge your troth But are you ready? © 2015 Kimberly MillerReviews
