NightA Poem by Kimberly MillerNight It comes softly and quietly without warning Slowly darkening the bright sunlight as it falls over the edge of the earth Creepying along the outskirts of towns and farms It covers homes and quarters with its thick blanket of darkness Wrapping itself tight, almost sufficatingly It twists its way around trees and bushes Through cornfields and outhouses It elopes the tiny farm houses and barns People watch fearfully from their windows Horses whine in their stalls, sensing its nearness Cats scurry under porchs and dogs howl at their doors The darkness settles silently and thickens Its dark, arm-like figures reach out Covering what it has missed Then, it shoots streams of inky blackness into the air Almost covering the moon and twinkling stars Black shadows soon prowl the streets They move like spirits, because they are Everyone is inside, its your funeral if you dare leave your home The dark spirits move quickly and swiftly From house to house, tree to tree They move gracefully but mysteriously For no one knows why or how these shadows move This is what we have come to call "Night" © 2015 Kimberly MillerReviews
