The Last Time

The Last Time

A Poem by Awaken the Sleepwalker
"

This was my first attempt at a list poem. I don't feel great about it, but I don't dislike it.

"

The last time I saw my best friend was a year ago

The last time I left my house was shortly before that

The last time I slept in a warm bed was two summers ago at grandmas

And the last time I played was too long ago to remember.

The last time I cried was today

The last time I screamed, the same

The last time I asked for help and warmth no one heard

And the last time I was heard, it sent shivers down my mother’s spine.

I can’t remember the last time I could tell my mother was happy

I can’t remember the last time that daddy was sober

I can’t remember the last time daddy was himself, not a monster

And I can’t remember the last time my little body wasn’t covered in bruises.

I can’t remember the last time anyone spoke to me and not of me

I can’t remember what it’s like to be

I can’t remember if I said adieu

And I can’t remember how I died, but I certainly have a clue.
