Survived

Survived

A Poem by Billy Sullivant

Let me tell ya a story about a boy who was born in 1992
Whether you wanna think the story is false or true,
that's entirely up to you...
He'd only see himself a bag of walking meat and sin.
Didn't care what the world think if he did himself in.
But every day he tried and tried to fit into, "society".
Blocking out his true friends and even his own family.
Like a mindless bird fluttering through an empty cage,
trapping himself within misery, rejection and growing rage.
His father's alcoholic fits only made the problem's worse.
How much a human could take? He thought God observed.
Looking back it's kinda funny to see... That boy was me.

A fifth of pain bottling up inside the boy's mind.
Dreaming that somebody could see what's truly behind
his heart and his eyes. Thought maybe with the stainless steel
he could bleed out the pain. Stuck with scars to never heal.
Watering down the seed to forsake him as a captive
With the vines twisting into his brain to cease to reasons to live.
Staring at pa's ol' gun, his life is done. No more attempts to run
and hide away from the world. Asking God to keep the gates open.
Tangled through the misery that loved his company,
Writing down his deepest and final apology.
Maybe in the end he was born to commit suicide...
But the next day, the world may never realize ... He survived.
