Better OffA Poem by CaitlinBut I know you never read. And truly, it's okay. I'm better off that way.Pretending is my mission, My issue and my job. I’m watching you alone now As you drown your mother’s cup And I think, God you need some love. And I wake up every morning With the tar glued to my mouth I’ve tried to be outspoken, But the words just won’t come out So I wrote all of it down The words you never read But we’re better off that way. I’ve won you all the tickets, And you’ve herded every prize The mirror that I bought you Showed us your mother’s face And I’m sorry that you cried. My back is strained from lifting, I’ve long broken my pen. I drank the ink inside it, To keep from giving in. But I know you never read. And truly, it’s okay. I’m better off that way. © 2010 CaitlinAuthor's Note
