Better Off

Better Off

A Poem by Caitlin
"

But I know you never read. And truly, it's okay. I'm better off that way.

"

Pretending is my mission,

My issue and my job.

I’m watching you alone now

As you drown your mother’s cup

And I think, God you need some love.

And I wake up every morning

With the tar glued to my mouth

I’ve tried to be outspoken,

But the words just won’t come out

So I wrote all of it down

The words you never read

But we’re better off that way.

I’ve won you all the tickets,

And you’ve herded every prize

The mirror that I bought you

Showed us your mother’s face

And I’m sorry that you cried.

My back is strained from lifting,

I’ve long broken my pen.

I drank the ink inside it,

To keep from giving in.

But I know you never read.

And truly, it’s okay.

I’m better off that way.

I love the lines "I’ve tried to be outspoken, But the words just won’t come out", lovely way of describing it.

I like this poem. Sometime we seem so far and be so close. I like the description and your story. Some people are lock in on their life. A very good ending.
