Belief

Belief

A Poem by Idyllwyld
"

What we believe in are the lies that we take to be true.

"

I want to believe in man.

I want to believe that man can be responsible. That we don't need to rely on religion. That our passions will guide us, but not control us. That together, we can initiate great change for the betterment of all. That our wonder and curiosity will lead to great and paradigm-shattering discovery. That we will rise above material-obsession and recognize far more valuable things in life.

I want to believe this, but I can't.

I can't control how others think. And to control how they would act would be self-defeating.

The only thing I can control is myself. And it is the only thing I can truly believe in. For everything and everyone else, there is only hope.

Author's Note

Idyllwyld
I usually proofread my works, however as always I'm sure there are typos and syntax errors. I appreciate any and all notices of that, and will work to correct those. If I haven't do know that I did acknowledge your notice and try implementing it, but found that it detracted from the effect I wanted and so omitted it.
