The Rain Forest

The Rain Forest

A Poem by Idiong Divine

I came here to the rain forest with my axe

To inflict upon these trees, sores and cracks.

                                They look so odd

                                In the distance.

                                But this first one

Is more or less a god

                              Taking its own stand

                                    My axe

Could not crack

Even its new bred buds

My God! Is it some god

Looking and waiting for a priest?

I was going to crack it in pieces

But here it stands like a child

Bearded with innocence

It stands so mild

Looking like a friend

My lovely little tree

Could it be

Your voice

In my chest

Saying ‘Boy

Drop that

Motor- machete

And spare the forest?

I heed I drop my axe

It is not much a tax

To pre … serve our trees.
