The ParkA Poem by Rose F.Losing a best friend to stupidity. The polluted grey overcast Singed my childhood memories The metallic tone of the playground Warned me of potential enemies When I was knee high I sat on that slide Now she sits there mumbling her impatience through her teeth posing seductively for my camera As I click away below her feet I crawled up next to her And began to display my petty artistic attempts One by one she shot them all down I painfully swallowed my discontent “Delete that one. That one makes me look fat. Oh God. Delete that one too. My boyfriend can never see that.” But of course I kept them all I saw the beauty in her imperfections She was the best companion a blind person could have Little did I know I was about to discover introspection I looked around the remains Of the once unsoiled park Graffiti covered anything that could be tainted Including my best friends heart As we left the colorless place I felt a piece of me fall to the littered ground My friendship screamed “Please don’t leave me!” But I never turned around
