The Perfect WorldA Story by Rose F....Practice makes perfect
The northern lights blew out. The trenches of the sea were dry. There was no movement across the barren lands, just air, whistling in a high pitched tone.
Somewhere from the core of the Earth there came a glow. It meant nothing because there was nothing.
Over the years it became bigger and more astounding. But no one was there to see it. It burned a fiery orange and would have blinded mortal eyes if there had been any.
From the heavens three Gods descended; Zeus, Poseidon, and Artemis.
“The mortals have destroyed this place with their hatred and despite for each other. What shall we do, brother?” Poseidon questioned.
“We must help Gaea end her suffering and rebuild her.” Zeus commanded and as he spoke those words the other Gods came from high upon their thrones. Zeus took the orange core into his hands.
“Gaea’s heart.” He stated. He kissed it and it turned a deep shade of red and started thumping loudly. Then the sound of gushing water was heard. Artemis raced across the miles to the nearest source.
“Water has filled the Nile River!” she called.
“And the Amazon.” Poseidon said from the other said of the globe.
“Very good.” Zeus said. “Her blood flows once more.” He lowered the heart back into the depths of the Earth and covered it with a blanket of dirt.
Zeus then looked at the other Gods.
“What are you waiting for?” he asked them. “Go! Rebuild! Create!” he commanded.
In the blink of an eye they set off in different directions. They lifted sunken continents and coated everything in a luscious green to make the world beautiful again. Forests, jungles, and plains were the new earth. No tundra’s or deserts; just green.
Then life came. They started as bacteria and grew with the years into mammals, birds, and reptiles. The years went by in seconds because time itself was still a child.
Poseidon happily cannonballed into the new born sea. He made homes for the aquatic creatures in the coral reefs and seaweed beds of all shapes and sizes. He took all the pearls in the reefs and built a magnificent palace for himself at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
Artemis found her home deep in a large forest. She built a small hut with stones and twigs held tighter with a piney sap. Once she was done she came outside and sat on the ground, making for herself a crown of wildflowers. Her animals flocked to her, the wind whispered to her, and the dirt molded to her, for she was Mother Nature.
The tears she had shed from the destruction were wiped away as a fawn licked her nose. Her smile lit up the continent from east to west and brought an eternal happiness from north to south.
Zeus watched proudly from the heavens, as the world once again recreated itself. He noticed from the corner of his eye, a shadow. It was very out of place in this fresh sinless world.
“Halt, my brother!” he called. The shadowy figure stopped. “Just what are you doing?” he asked.
“I just assumed we would all take our previous responsibilities back,” the figure sneered.
“You assumed wrong,” Zeus responded.
“I would like to see you stop me,” He snickered.
“Hades, do not make me damn you. It would pain me greatly,” Zeus said putting his hand on his younger brother’s shoulder.
Hades spun around and smacked it off.
“Do your worst.” He challenged him.
Zeus shook his head. “I’m sorry Hades, for what I must be done.”
“If you damn me to Tartarus I will only corrupt Gaea’s heart again,” Hades mocked him.
“What has deceived you into thinking I would ever give you the satisfaction of ripping apart my perfect world for a second time?” Zeus glared.
“Your evil has had its reign!” he boomed. He wielded a lighting bolt from his side and hurled it at Hades.
“No!” Hades screamed in horror. With the impact came a huge clap of thunder. Hades’ body shattered into a million tiny glass pieces. Zeus collected the remains and hurled them past the orbit of the earth, never again be seen as they floated through the vast continuum of the universe forever.
As simple as it may sound, that was the end of all evil.
Zeus looked around him. The world was almost complete. It only lacked one thing.
“It is time.” He announced. The other Gods gathered near.
He took a grain of sand in his hand and rubbed it together in his palms and blew on it. He dropped it back to the stone cold ground suddenly. It slowly began to change into a fetus, which then developed into a child, and finally a man.
The other Gods watched in awe.
He arose and spoke to Zeus “Father, I thank you for the gift of life you have bestowed upon me.” He then turned to the others. “I thank you all for the beautiful world you have blessed me to live in. I am eternally grateful.” He bowed and they nodded their heads.
Zeus then took a leaf from Artemis’s crown and another grain of sand. He rubbed them in his palms and soon after appeared a woman. The leaf from which she was created represented her emotions which absorbed all of those around her. She smiled and said her thanks, kneeling beside the man.
“You shall be called Amaz.” He told the man. “And you shall be called Granette.” he told the woman. They arose and looked at each other for the first time. They both blushed as the other looked upon the other’s naked body.
Aphrodite put her hands on them both. The spell of love was cast as the man extended his hand to the woman. She took it and grinned
“Go forth into the world.” He told them. They willingly set out on their journey as the other Gods returned to their respective places.
Zeus went back to his throne in the heavens. He smiled down on Amaz and Grantte, knowing that his work was done. Though he had failed before, he knew he had created a flawless world this time. Practice makes perfect.
