Golden heart

Golden heart

A Poem by Ida C. Stavnes

They say the road to heaven,

Is through the hearts of those you love.

And that the lingering shadow of remembered souls,

Can be felt and sensed when open hearts look above.

I don’t believe heaven to be some sacred place,

Filled with angels and halos and clouds of foam.

But I truly believe that the love of those left behind,

Is what fills you with light and makes every place home.

The open road ahead is far from simple,

But if anything you were always my friend to borrow.

And I wanna thank you for that incredible gift,

Which I keep with me during every tomorrow.

I know for certain you’ve felt doubt and fear,

But you found strength through tears ever so true.

Thank you for giving me that profound belief,

For impossible never meant anything to you.

So lift me up and turn the ashes into flames,

Cause I have overcome more than words can ever say.

But I’ve been given hope that the fight is won,

And I think this is the beginning of that day.

So, I will look for you in the lilies,

In the fair moment between awake and dream.

In the beautiful light as much as the misty dark,

And in every precious moment in between.

I will forever hold you close to home,

And keep you with me on my every way.

I wear the golden heart with pride and affection,

As I carry you in my heart every day.
