A mother

A mother

A Poem by Ida C. Stavnes

A mother sees you first,
She’s there through the best and worse.
A mother gets you fed,
But not necessarily in bed.

A mother watches you grow,
Take your first steps in the snow.
A mother watched you cry,
When you’ve told your first lie.

A mother is there when you smile,
Even if it’s just for a while.
A mother helps when you’re in pain,
Through the sunshine and the rain.

A mother walks you to school,
And comforts when the kids are cruel.
A mother is there when you’ve fell and you bleed,
Oh yes, she’s there, she’s there indeed.

A mother is there when you’re feeling insecure,
When everything around you is a blur.
A mother is there when you are sad,
And she calms you when you’re mad.

A mother is there when you face the wall,
No matter what she’s there through it all.
A mother brings you sunshine on a rainy day,
And she loves you all the way.
