This is a tale about two seniors in high school, Kit and Cherice. Their love starts from shy, to deep, to passionate, and then to a dramatic showdown between passion and fear.

The Meeting of Like Souls

It was a year and a half ago, in the backyard of my home, that I saw a beautiful young woman and her mom and dad moving in next door to me. Her hair was that of a dark tone that glistened in the sun. Her skin was pale and translucent like moonlight shining upon the river on a summer‘s night. Upon her lips, she wore dark lipstick and on her nails, she wore black nail polish. She looked as if a goddess. So beautiful and unattainable. Even her walk was smooth, as if calculating each step to entice my very core. She wore clothes that appeased her powerful beauty. So dark and powerful, I knew her soul was deep. She wore a dark hoodie that seemed to mask her true soul. Like that of a shell upon a frightened sea creature. Her jeans were a dark blue. They were neither baggy nor tight. I knew then that she was not like the rest of the girls in my school. W****s that wanted nothing but to be noticed for their curvy features only to simply wish for a night of pleasure, nothing more. I knew that this woman was different. I could feel a glimpse of a soul, similar to mine. A dark soul that wished to find true love, the meaning of life, the reason for existence in a cold world that sheds nothing but hatred and despair. As I stood there, seeing this siren walk so elegantly toward my direction, my heart pounded like that of a drum. She walked closer and closer with a smile. As she finally stood in front of me, I felt such a powerful glance from her eyes. I could not help but stare into her azure eyes. As our eyes made contact, something inside me pictured many scenes of bliss. Bliss similar to that of feeling calm under the oak tree on a windy Autumn evening. As she reached out her hand, she said, “Hello. My name is Cherice” I thought to myself, “Cherice. Oh what a beautiful name struck down from the heavens itself.” I grabbed her hand and said, “Hello. I am Kit. It is nice to meet you. Where are you from?” She looked at me and said, “I am from New York. My father moved here on account of his job. He is probably going to remain here. I hope that everything works out.” I said to her, “I am sure it will. None the less, we are glad to have you here.” Cherice says, “By the way, Kit, I like your shirt. Not many people have similar styles to mine, haha.” I thought to myself, “This angel just complimented me. Oh what glorious occasion this shall be! Whatever divine presence has blessed me through his Providence.” I laughed sheepishly and said, “Thanks Cherice. After I get done mowing the lawn, I am going for a walk. If you wish to accompany me, I would be more than happy.” Cherice agreed and went inside to finish moving furniture.

After mowing the lawn, I stepped outside to start a brisk walk. I was surprised to see Cherice standing at the sidewalk, waiting on me. She looked so elegant standing there. The setting sun’s red haze intensified the pale luminescence of her skin. The dark clothing and dark nails and lips seemed to show her intensified power. So unattainable, so lovely as a rose, I felt bliss yet pain hit me at once.

“Hey Cherice. I am glad to see you here.”

“Haha. A walk would do me good, Kit”

We walked along the sidewalk as the red summer sun began to set. I looked to her and she looked at me. Oh those beautiful blue eyes. They seemed to pierce the very depths of my soul. She looked upon me and smiled, I returned the smile. We walked further along, discussing our hobbies and interests.

“So Cherice, what type of hobbies do you enjoy?”

“Well, I enjoy reading fiction, researching astrology and listening to music. When I listen to music, the world seems to disappear and gives me some great idea for poems.”

“So, you’re a poet?”

“Yes, I write quite a bit.”

“I think that is awesome. I like to write myself, but not many know about that. That will be our little secret.”

Cherice laughed at that comment. I knew then, that she and I shared something. This feeling of exuberating happiness took over my every thought. Walking beside this beautiful siren was like walking beside someone I have known for many years. We continued walking to the local park, discussing religion, life, mysteries and so forth. She and I agreed on every subject. We both love astrology, poetry, and even enjoyed Anne McCaffrey books.
We finally arrived at the park. It was not yet time for the sun to set. The wind was blowing at a slow speed, yet fast enough to blow our hair. I could not help but notice that Cherice’s hair blew so beautifully in the wind. Those long, dark threshes blew amongst the wind seeming to captivate my attention for all eternity. I dared not stare for too long a time, as I did not want to unsettle her. As we sat down on the bench, I decided to tell Cherice why I love walking here.

“You know Cherice, I love coming to this place. There is something I want you to see.”

“Ok, Kit. What is it you wish to show me?”

“Just wait another minute or so. I timed today so I could see this sunset. This sunset eases my heart when the skies are clear, such as today.”

“Oh, Kit! You and I are not so different. I often find myself watching the sunset, too. It seems to relax my very soul.”

“Wow! You are so very deep, like me, Cherice. We should write and share poems with each other, someday soon. I have always wanted to share this depth with someone, but people around here are nothing but shallow fools obsessed with their own lives. They follow blindly, like sheep being led for the slaughter, to appease a society that is corrupt and on the verge of collapse.”

“How right you are, Kit. We, as of now, are committing cultural blasphemy.” Cherice laughed at the injustice of this world.

“Ah Cherice. Look how beautiful the sky is, today. It’s as if Heaven, itself, is falling down in pieces before us.”

Cherice and I looked intently upon the scene. So beautiful the sunset seemed, as I sat beside this raven haired siren. I knew while I was setting beside her, the very fibers of time and space stopped dead in their tracks. Never before had my heart felt feelings like this. I felt as if a tiny child opening presents on a snowy Christmas morning. I was so excited to share this moment, especially with someone like Cherice.

After we sat for what seemed like days, we returned to the sidewalk and walked toward home. Along the way, we spoke of how beautiful nature really is and that most people take it for granted. We seemed to agree on each and every subject. It seemed, for once in my life, something good had happened to me. For the first time, I was actually happy. Many years, I had felt as if whatever divine presence had long forgotten me; it was as if he or she had simply cursed my birth with a never ending nothingness. However, now there is this beautiful angel beside me. She seems to be so much like me that I can be open with her about anything.

As we rounded the corner to our homes, I slowly walked Cherice to her front door. We were talking so much about life, we did not seem to want to leave each other’s company. Such depth of conversation, we had never had with anyone else.

“Well Kit, thanks for letting me see the sunset with you. It was very beautiful.”

“No problem Cherice. Hey, if you’re not doing anything tomorrow, let’s walk around or you can chill with my friends and I at the mall. If they give you a hard time, I’ll set them straight.”
Cherice giggled, “Ok Kit, that sounds nice. I am sure your friends will be fine. Besides, I may find a new journal to keep my poems in.”

“Ok, I will see you tomorrow Cherice. You should come over our house for lunch, then we can leave.”

“Sounds good”

“See you tomorrow, Cherice.”

As Cherice walked back into her home, I slowly walked toward mine. I could not help but stare up at the sky in a distant daze. I could not believe this day was happening. How could someone so amazing and tantalizingly beautiful want to be around me. Her beauty was too much for my unworthy eye. Her hair, her lips, her eyes, they all are such passionate gems that not even the gods dare touch. As I walked into my room, I decided to write in my journal.
“Today was one of the greatest moments in my life. I have met someone who I can’t get off my mind. Everything about her is everything I have ever wanted. Oh this burning love of mine, so bright and blazing like fires of an incandescent flame, sparks only for you as I gaze into those light, blue gems upon your face. This broken peasant only longs to be by your divine side. Oh heart of hearts, how must I beat for thee?”

After much thought and concentration, I decided it was time to listen to some music. I sat upon my bed, laying and looking up at my ceiling. I laid there for what seemed like hours, until Mother and Father walked in.

Father came in and said, “Son, I see you have met our new neighbors. I couldn’t help but notice you and their daughter went for a walk, you sly devil.”

“Dad!!!”

Mother put her hand on my father’s back, “Now Dan, leave him alone. Son, I think she seems nice.”

“Yea Mom, she’s pretty awesome.”

Mother smiled. “You could use someone new to be around.”

“Yea, we’re pretty similar.

Dad smiled. “Atta boy!”

“God Dad!”

At that exact moment, my sister walked in and started drilling me with questions.

“So what’s your little girlfriend like?”

“Shut up Alexis before I throw you out of the window”

“Oooh, someone’s defensive. I think somebody’s in love.”

“That’ll be enough, Alexis,” said Mom with a stern look.

“Son, you just have fun and keep your heart guarded. Don’t fall too fast.”

Father looked serious. “Yea son. We just worry, ya know. Just remember, you’re a good kid. I’m sure she’ll fall for you. Just use that ole family charm!”

“Sure Dad...”

After all the drilling questions from the whole damned family, I decided it was a good time to get some sleep.

The Coming Day of Bliss and Poetry

At eight o’clock A.M., I decided it was time to greet the morning sun. I ate my breakfast and got a shower and shaved my face. At about eleven o’clock, I heard a knock on my door. I heard my father get up and answer. I heard him say, “Oh, he’s in there. How are you today?” At that moment I heard, “I’m fine, thanks.”

“Oh my God, it’s Cherice. She’s here!!!” I said astonished.

Cherice then walked into my kitchen.
“Hey Kit.”

“Hey Cherice,” I said, gazing into her eyes.

“So, still going to the mall?”

“Yes, we are. What would you like for lunch?”

“Just a cheese sandwich, if you please.”

“No way, that’s my favorite”, I surprisingly said.

“Mine, too.”

After we ate our sandwiches, we decided we should go ahead and leave for the mall. We got into my car and drove five miles to the local mall. Along the way, we talked of all the bands we like and I was amazed that Savage Garden is Cherice’s favorite band, too.

“Wow, Cherice! How many similarities do we share?”

“I don’t know Kit. It’s as if some kind of Providence has allowed us to meet.”

I blushed rather heavily and said, “Well, I suppose you’re right. I’m glad I’ve met you.” Telling someone how I truly felt was never my strong point. However, I could not help but notice that Cherice was blushing, too.

Not soon enough after that, we were at the mall. We walked out of the car, to greet my friends. Elijah, Michael, Garrett, Kyle and Jake were waiting for us at the front entrance.

Upon entering Elijah crossed his arms and said, “Dude, we were getting worried about you. You drive like an old man. It takes you forever to get anywhere.” Elijah patted me on the back.

Michael stood in awe and said, “So...Kit, you gonna tell us who your friend is, there?”

“Everyone, this is Cherice. She is new to town and I invited her along to hang with us today.”

Everyone looked at Cherice and in unison said, “Hello”

“You’ll have to forgive them Cherice. They are like puppets that I control.”

Garrett crossed his arms and said, “I’m no damned puppet”

Jake squinted his eyes and said, “You’re an a*****e.”

Kyle blushed and said, “Douchebag!”

Elijah looked up at me, while laughing saying, “Scorpios suck! We all know Aries rule.”

Cherice looked puzzled and scratched her head.

I looked toward Cherice and said, “What’s wrong?”

“I had no idea you were a Scorpio.”

I looked at her and proudly said, “Yea, it’s pretty awesome!”

Cherice blushed and put her hand on my shoulder. “No wonder we hit it off so well. I’m a Pisces.”

Everyone looked at me and started laughing. Garrett looked at me and said
“Oooh, hubba hubba. Somebody’s in love over here”

I grew rather furious and said, “Shut the hell up!”

Cherice laughed and said, “It’s cool. They’re just teasing you little Scorpio”

I could not help but gaze at Cherice in amazement. I smiled and blushed a tad. After our getting warmed up and group talk, we decided to walk around the mall. It is strange walking around this mall. Most people are rather conservative and when they see quite a few people gathered together, with our style, they become weary. It is amazing how society acts to something they are not used to.

After a few hours of walking around the mall, I told the rest of the guys to do whatever, but I am going to take Cherice to Hot Topic. They agreed and walked the other direction.

“Hey Cherice, would you accompany me to Hot Topic? We should look around for all the cool stuff they have.”

“Ok, lets go”

As we walked into the store, we looked around at all the beautiful shirts, the key chains, the earrings, and other apparel. While going to the other end of the store, I noticed a purple and black composition book. I remembered Cherice telling me she would like to find one. While Cherice was gazing at another object, I picked the composition book up. I walked to the counter and bought the purple and black composition book. The cashier put the book in a bag with the receit. I then grabbed the bag, put it behind my back and walked toward Cherice.

“Hey Cherice, I got a little surprise for you.”

“What is it, Kit?”

I took the bag from behind my back and placed it into Cherice’s hands. She opened the bag with anticipation and peeked inside. Upon looking in the bag, her eyes grew wide and smiled just like an angel.

“Oh Kit, you shouldn’t have!” Cherice then put her arms around me and hugged me for what seemed like eternity, although it only lasted three seconds.

“Heh, It was nothing really...”

“Oh Kit, you’re such a sweetheart. Is there anything you want to buy for yourself, though?”

“Neh, I may go check out the videogame store, though.”

“Ok, you go ahead, I need to look at some things, in private.”

“Um, ok Cherice. If you’re sure.”

“I will see you there, Kit.”

“Ok”

Then, I left Hot Topic and walked to EB Games. After browsing for a while, I grew bored. I noticed the new Kingdom Hearts game, so I picked it up. I looked at it for a while and decided I would buy it. I brought the game to the cashier, bought it and went outside. When I walked outside, I noticed Cherice standing with another bag in her hands.

“Ah, I see you found something else you liked.”

“Yes. I have a surprise for you too, Kit.”

“What? Cherice, you didn’t have to.”

Cherice handed me the bag and said, “Open up, silly.”

I opened the bag and noticed a black Kingdom Hearts shirt and a wrist band. I stood in amazement that she would do this for me.

“Cherice...”

“What is it?”
I pondered a minute with my voice choking and softly said, “Thank you....very much.” A tear almost fell from my eye, but I quickly had to stop. I could not show any weakness in front of this beautiful angel.

“Oh, it’s no big thing, you Scorpio.” Cherice stood there, smiling sheepishly with her dreamy, azure eyes.

Cherice and I then walked to the other group. They were waiting for us outside.
Elijah noticed us first and said, “So, finally out are we?”

I smiled. “Yea, we had to buy a few things.”

Garrett then looked at me. “Hey man, I bought a new DnD book I think would be awesome to catch up on for our next game.”

“Awesome man, I’ll check it out.”

Kyle smiled and said, “Kit, you need to listen to this Coheed and Cambria cd with me tomorrow.”

“Ok man, I will.”

Jake and Michael stood there, aimlessly. Jake looked at me and said, “Yea, I didn’t see anything I want.

Michael looked rather blank, “Man, I just wanted to chill. I don’t know of anything I need, at the moment.”

We all stood around for a brief time, discussing how we were going to get prepared for school that following week. We all agreed that we were definitely not ready, but personally, I was.

Cherice looked a tad nervous. “Kit, I’m a little nervous about going to this new school. I hope people don’t bother me.”

“Don’t worry Cherice. I will be around and if we don’t have any classes, I will meet you between classes and you can let me know how you’re doing, everyday.”

“Kit, you’re so sweet”

“Well, ya know.” I laughed and Cherice playfully punched me in the arm.

After standing around the mall, Cherice and I decided it was time for us to be heading back towards our homes. We said our goodbyes to our friends and decided our day was done. As we arrived to my driveway, Cherice had a contented look onher face.

“Kit, today was so much fun. I have an idea, though”

“What is that Cherice?”

“You like to write, don’t you?”

“Yes, I do”

“Let’s share some poems with each other.”

I pondered for a minute and said, “Sure. That sounds like a great idea.”

We got out of the car and Cherice walked into my house. We walked into the kitchen, where there was a nice table to write on. We each grabbed a few pieces of paper and began to diligently scribble our ideas. Cherice started with the first poem.

“I enjoy prose, so I will start with this one. I will call it
This Lonely Prison Will Be the Death of Me.

This lonely prison will be the death of
me, never to escape the ivory towers of doom.
Forever searching to destroy my soul, they never
cease to damn my heart. Chained and bound to
the hell of an eternal flame, my burning skin will
wither into the ashes of this twisted sorrow.
Will you look into these hollowed, withered eyes?
They see no scenes of blissful noons nor nights of
solace to ease my troubled mind. All alone in this
prison, a prison called life, in which a world
can never understand my sorrow; I will wither away
to bones, till eternity takes me back into your eyes.”
I listened to her speak these beautiful words with such amazement.

“That was very beautiful. Hold on a minute and I will think of one.”
I thought for a minute and made this one.

"Red-Orbed Setting Sun"
Upon the orange haze of a mid-summer
sky, I often think of you. The sunset yields,
like a red glowing orb, flickering fiercely before
the ice chill of a night breeze. Oh how I
want to hold you in my tight embrace. So soft
and delicate to touch, your presence, alone, brings solace
to my weary soul. Without you here, I often walk
these rocky streets alone, gazing at the soft-green
fields. And upon returning to my tranquil home,
I often watch the red-orbed setting sun and wonder
if you see it, too.”

Cherice thought for a minute and sit back.

“Kit, that was very beautiful, let’s continue.”

Cherice thought for a bit and came up with another beautiful prose.

“I love birds so I will make this one,

Two Plump Orange-Breasted Robbins

Two plump, orange-breasted robbins fly so
gently out of the green, dewed grass into the
fluffy clouds of a mid-June sky. To horizons
above this earthly sphere, beyond the shattered
looking glass of what we know, these two
orange-breasted robbins find lands of peace and
solace in the flowery field of an Eden all earth-
bound creatures seek.”

“I really like that, Cherice. I love birds, too. They have so much freedom. I often picture myself as a bird, so free and elegant. I think you will like this one.

"Mocking Bird"
Sing, sing oh mocking bird,
Sing your songs of glee.
Sing, sing oh mocking bird,
Sing all those songs to me.
Fly, fly oh mocking bird.
Fly to the bluest sky.
Fly, fly oh mocking bird.
Fly to your dreams so high.
Nest, nest oh mocking bird.
Nest in the highest tree.
Nest, nest oh mocking bird.
Nest in your home, don't flee.”

“Kit, that was beautiful.”

Cherice looked at me with a bright smile.

“We could probably compose a collection of awesome poems, ya know.”

I looked at Cherice with a half smile, “Hell yes! We are just that awesome.” We both laughed for a while.

“Well Cherice..... I suppose I better be going home. We will have school tomorrow, so I can give you a ride, if you wish.”

“That will be fine by me.”

“Ok, see you tomorrow, then.”

As I walked out the door, Cherice grabbed me by my shirt and gave me a very tight hug. I was rather startled but returned the hug.

“Thank you, Kit, for making my move to this town so wonderful.”

“It’s ok, Cherice. I enjoy our time together.”

Cherice let go and went back to her room. I continued walking out the door and entered my house. I walked up my stairs, to my room, only to be greeted by my sister.

“So big bro, what was all that hugging stuff I saw?”

“What?! What were you doing watching us?”

“It’s ok bro. I know I give you a hard time, but I think it’s wonderful that you have found someone. You’re always so introverted and closed. It’s good you found someone you can relate to.”

“Wow, sis! To hear that from you....”

Alexis patted me on the back, “Don’t get used to it. Loser”

“Yea...I know.”

“Night big bro.”

“Night sis.”

I then went to my room and collapsed on my bed. It was not much later that I fell asleep.

The First Days of School: Love is growing

My alarm clock rung, the next morning at 5am. I usually woke up early so I can exercise before I go to school. I went downstairs and Mom and Dad were at the table drinking coffee and eating oatmeal. Mom looked at me with a kind smile.

“Son, I have oatmeal on the stove and a fresh pot of coffee made.

Father looked up. “Son, it’s good stuff.”

“Yea sure Mom and Dad. I’ll fix me some”

After eating breakfast, I did some cardio and showered. I picked out a pair of jeans and the Kindom Hearts shirt that Cherice bought me. I said my goodbyes to Mom, Dad and Alexis and walked out the door.

As I stepped outside, Cherice was waiting at her front porch.

“Hey Cherice, you ready?”

“Yea. Ready as I’ll ever be.”

We both laughed, went in the car, and got to school.

As we both walked to the school doors, there were many people staring at us. It was nothing new to me because my style was different from the average student. Mine and Cherice’s clothing were rather dark. She was wearing dark jeans and a HIM shirt, while I was wearing a video game shirt. I told Cherice not to worry about these fools. It wasn’t too much longer that we went to the school library and found our friends Elijah, Michael, Garrett, Kyle and Jake. We got on computer and chatted for a while. After about fifteen minutes, the bell for first period rang. Cherice and I walked to her new locker, number 17. I helped her get her books, then we walked to my locker, number 43.

“Cherice, don’t worry about today. Just go to your class, do the best you can and don’t worry about anyone else.”

“Ok, Kit. I will do my best.”

“I will come to you after each class, if you want me to, and see how you’re doing.”

Cherice smiled and said, “I would appreciate that very much.” Cherice then hugged me, which added more stares in the hallway. I didn’t care, though. To hell with these people. I was getting all the attention from the most beautiful girl in school!

Cherice and I then walked to our separate classes. When I went to my class, everyone was asking me who the new girl was and why we were so close. I didn’t really give them a straight answer. What I did was none of anyone’s business except my own. All throughout the day, I would return to Cherice’s locker and then we would go to my own. I asked her how her day was going and apparently it was fine. She seemed to like how everything was going. At about twelve, noon, it was time for lunch. I met up with Cherice and our friends and we ate lunch together. We gathered at our own group and had many stares, especially toward Cherice and I. Cherice and I were rather inseparable and it showed. After lunch, we continued the previous ritual. We only had three classes left. After school was over, I met Cherice outside to pick her up. We said our goodbyes to our friends and left for home.
As we pulled up to our homes, Cherice looked at me with a rather melancholic expression. Her eyes looked like a pillar of sadness.

“Kit, I want to thank you for being there for me today. It was very nerve- racking today.”

“No problem, Cherice. I‘m glad that I could make your day better.”

“Yes. It would have been a rough day, by myself.”

I then gave Cherice a hug and she went inside her home and I went inside mine. I had some homework to catch up on and I was tired, anyway.

The next day continued the same way. I woke up, did my morning thing and then went to pick up Cherice. We continued the same ritual at school and going home. Cherice and I were very close. Many people started rumors about us and we were considered a couple. In a way, we were. Our feelings were never truly spoken, however. We preferred it that way. We knew we cared for each other, we were just afraid to speak of our feelings. When two hearts are so similar, burning in the fire of passion yet brooding from pain over many years, it is nearly impossible to speak of feelings this deep. However, this would all change towards the middle of our school year. Life would plummet into a dark spiral for both of us. Passion and desire could not be held in, for long.

The Passionate Betrayal: Succombing to the Heart

One afternoon, after a long school day, Cherice and I decided to hang out for a while.

Cherice had a poetic feeling, so we decided to write.

“Kit, let’s go to my house. Lets write again, like we did that one day.

“Ok. I would like that.”

Cherice finished one poem. “Kit, tell me what you think.”
"The Dark Winged Fairy"

These blue, crystal waters clash amongst
the shining sands, that glisten as diamonds against
the midnight sky. While reflecting on my tingling
youth, the white-orbed moon shined her beams on
the palest skin I've ever known. A dark winged
fairy with raven hair, stood before me with her
charcoal eyes. Oh those eyes, so void and full
of a dark nothingness, gaze deep into my soul.
Her tapering fingers stretched to my hand, wishing
me into her darkened world of infinite time. A
burning love, she infinitely seeks, to negate the
black nothingness in her heart.
"Infinite time or burning midnight passion, I shall
give to you. These wings of blackest death are
nothing to my empty heart that longs to feel
your tight embrace around my curving hips. One burning
kiss upon dark cherry lips are yours to entice the
fruit of sin."

Her words spoke softly into my long battered
heart, to be her lover for all of time. I denied her advance,
And as I admitted that flaming lust is not love,
black tears fell upon the pale-skinned cheeks, and back
into a void of darkness, she was no more.”

I looked at Cherice in amazement.
“Cherice, that was beautiful. Listen to this one

"Two Turtle Doves on a Red Hazed Evening"

My love for you is as pure as two
white-winged turtle doves cooing under an almond
tree on a red-hazed Autumn evening.
Often, by clear crystaled waters, shining elegantly
into my dark-green eyes, I find myself thinking
fondly of your delicate touch.
So sofly and gently, your hand fits perfectly into
my own.

My deepest love often finds you in my dreams,
your tender lips placed graciously unto my own.
Yet burning love with deepest desires, hold not
a candle to your view.

Your dark colored eyes haunt my days and nights,
when your mighty presence is so far away.
Though far away from my embrace, I will
wait for your return. And like two white-winged
turtle doves under and almond tree on that red-
hazed Autumn evening, together we will set, cooing our
very own symphonies of love.”

I noticed Cherice was very pleased with mine.
“Very good. Let me do two of them, then you do two.”

"Two Lovers Fueled Under the Autumn Sun"

Two lovers fueled under the Autumn sun,
Prepare to fight a fate, tested by time.
Our burning love may never come undone,
No matter how the clock of doom may chime.
Your presence near, it keeps demons at bay,
Calming the fire, that burns so deep within.
Your eyes, alone, brighten my very day,
Ensuring the love we share, never ends.
Yet why do we ignore our very truth,
Admitting love, is something much too real.
My heart, so filled of loneliness and ruth,
Wishes to tell you how I truly feel.
The hottest fire of my love-longing heart,
Burns just for you, though my soul tears apart.

"If Life Were a Simple and Elegant Thing"

If life were a simple and elegant thing, like that
of a sunset on an Autumn's eve, with the red rays shining
across the glistening sky, then life would be something
like that of a rose. A rose so beautiful, to be held
softly in the hands of grace and happiness. A happiness
that brings peaceful solace to our weary minds. Minds
darkened by a cloud of doom that ever surrounds
our broken hearts.”
Cherice’s poems never cease to amaze me.

“I really loved the rhyme scheme in your first poem, Cherice. Here are my two.”

"Enough For Me To Carry On"

I walk along this endless sea, thinking of you, my only love. Those eyes, that bore deep within my soul, still linger within the recesses of this mad man. This heart of mine, still beats for you, aching and longing for your kiss. And deep within my soul, I know you long for me, too. The wind that blows the dancing ocean waves, it's icy breeze calls your name, whispering softly into my ear. I suffer alone, in silence, awaiting the day we meet again. Yet this silence, so deafening to mine ears, hath cursed my soul one-thousand times. I have felt this feeling before, it haunts me in my deepest sleep. Dreams are no escape, they only hide my inevitable despair. A despair of darkness with clouds that block the light of our love. I'll wait for you, my love. Though this pain, unbearable to my heart, breaks my core; To know I can hold you, is enough for me to carry on.

"When Two Hearts Beat In A Single Rhyme"

Like jewels of an Ethiope's ear,
Beauty to my unworthy eye;
Without your love, my greatest fear,
A fate of which I'd rather die.
Crystal waters amgonst the sand,
Dance to the love I save for you.
Right now, I wish to hold your hand,
Under these skies' majestic blue.
We lay atop a grassy field,
I place your hand inside of mine;
This love we share, may never yield,
When two hearts beat in single rhyme.

I noticed a glimpse of sadness on Cherice’s face. Her eyes looked like two haunting pools of sadness.

“Cherice, what’s wrong?”

“Kit, I think we’re just two souls on the verge of finding out that our deep hearts are never going to be mended.”

“I don’t think so, Cherice. We just have to look in front of us.”

“I guess so, Kit.”

At that moment, my heart pulsated and my mind went numb. I watched Cherice’s beauty and it infatuated me. She was a siren, taunting me with her playful whims. I could not take this anymore.

“Cherice, you know, perhaps there is something in front of you that stares at you in the eyes, caring for you more than anything else in the world.”

“Kit...”

Cherice then looked up at me with wanting eyes. I placed myself forward and she took one step back towards her wall.

“Kit...you’re so...(sighs)”

Before I knew it, I had grabbed Cherice’s arms and placed them onto the wall. I then leaned forward and I placed my fingers through her hair and started to kiss her neck. Cherice sighed and leaned in, as our lips locked in a passionate embrace. I then placed my arms upon her hips, kissing her for what seemed like hours until she shook loose, crying and slapped me.

“Kit...you have to go. LEAVE NOW!!!!”

“Cherice!!!”

“GO!!! I don‘t want to see you anymore.”

I then ran to my house. Adrenaline was pumping through my veins. I didn’t know what to feel. I had just kissed the woman that I loved yet she wanted nothing to do with me, anymore. What could I have done wrong? I stormed past Mom and Dad and went to my room. Alexis heard me slam my door. She came into my room and I yelled for her to leave and threw my shoe at her. I couldn’t deal with this alone, so I called Elijah.

“Elijah, I don’t know what to do.”

“What do you mean, man?”

“I was with Cherice and we kissed and now she wants nothing to do with me.”

‘UHH, what!!”

“Yea, man. It was crazy. But I’m in love with her. I know this to be true. I have kept it under wraps.”

“Have you told her?”

“No, man. But, I guess she knows now.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. But we were writing poems and I couldn’t hold my passion in any longer. She sat so beautifully there. I had to kiss her.”

“I don’t know what to tell you man.”

“I don’t either, Elijah. I’m so confused.”

“That’s what love does. I tell you what. You just come find us tomorrow and we’ll just try and get you relaxed, ok.”

“Elijah, you don’t understand. She doesn’t want to see me anymore...”

“Kit, don’t worry. We’ll talk tomorrow. Get some sleep.”

I took Elijah’s advice and went to sleep.

The Pain of a Ruined Lover: A Lover Near Death

The next day, I went to my car and Cherice was not there. I assume she had already left. As I got to school, I did not see her until lunch. When she saw me, she went the other way. Elijah and the others knew I was in pain. They came to my side and comforted me. Elijah told me, “Come to my house today. We’ll hang and play DnD.”

Garrett then looked at me, “Hey man. It’s ok.”

Jake and Kyle put their hands on my back. Michael looked at me, “Kit, I’m here for you bro.”

We then got up and went to the end of the lunchroom. Our friend, though not always with the group, Nathan was at the end. He was the school tough guy and protected us if need be. Nathan noticed I was upset.

“Hey, whats wrong with Kit?”

Elijah looked at him, “His heart is broken.”

“I assume, Cherice.”

I looked at Nathan, “Yea.”

“I saw some guy trying to flirt with her. Want me to kick his a*s?”

“If you want to.”

“Sweeeet! He’s had it coming.”

It wasn’t long that we heard Nathan’s name on the intercom. He had beat up some guy named Brock.

After a long day of school, we all went to Elijah’s house. Everyone was playing DnD, except me. I went outside to think. I tried calling Cherice’s house but got no answer. All of this pain of her being mad at me got to me. Elijah and Garrett came outside to check on me. They saw me crying, for the first time in their life. They were very startled by this. Elijah looked at Garrett.

“Garrett, I can’t stand seeing him like this.

“Neither can I.”

Garrett came to me, “Kit, don’t do this man.

“I love her...”

Elijah sighed.”We know man.”

After crying and holding my own head, I felt a chest pain. The pain became sharp and my left arm went numb. Before I knew it, I had passed out on Elijah’s front porch. When I awoke, I was in a hospital bed surrounded by a doctor, my family and closest friends, however, Cherice was not there.

The doctor looked at me and said, “Son, you are lucky to live. You have fairly severe aortic insufficiency and you passed out. Laying around without help is dangerous. Have you been under any stress?”

Elijah looked at the doctor, “He’s in love.”

The doctor looked at me, “Well son, you will have to be on meds but you can go home tomorrow.”

The next day, Elijah, Garrett, Jake, Kyle, Michael, Mom, Dad and Alexis came and put me in the van and took me home. Elijah and the gang told me to rest. Mom and Dad made sure I stayed calm and Alexis came in to talk to me.

“I’m sorry, big bro. I wished you weren’t so stressed.”

“It’s ok.”

“None of us knew you had a heart condition.”

Mom and Dad came in and looked after me. “Son, have you ever felt chest pains before.

“Yea.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Never thought much on it.”

I then fell asleep. I layed in bed all week and then started back to school. Every day was like a lost cause without Cherice, though.

Enough is Enough: Return to Normalcy, Kit! Cherice, Come to Senses!

The day before graduation, Elijah had enough of all this. He was furious and was planning to talk to Cherice, one on one. Elijah came to my house that night and threw a rock on the side of my room’s window.

“Get your a*s down here, man, and come with me.”

“Where are you wanting to go?”

“Just come on or I’m going to kick your a*s.”
“I knew he was serious because Elijah was usually not this angry, so I came along.”

“I’m going to get this straightened up, Kit.”

We walked to Cherice’s house and I was not feeling like having to deal with all of this.

“Kit, you stay here and wait by her window. Listen to what we say. I’m getting this straightened out.”

“Man, is this a good idea?”

“Shut up, fool.”

Elijah knocked on Cherice’s door and Cherice’s mom answered.

“I need to talk to Cherice,” Elijah said.

“Cherice” yelled her mom.

Cherice came and welcomed Elijah. She took Elijah to her room and he started talking to her and then asked questions.

“Cherice, do you know what you are doing to Kit?”

“I don’t want to talk about this.”

“Yea, you are, Cherice. Kit has been in the hospital with heart failure over you and you are going to answer some questions. I’m tired of seeing him like a zombie and I want the old friend I have known for years back.”

“Elijah, it’s more complicated than that.”

“Alright Cherice, do you love him?

“Elijah...”

“Damnit Cherice, he loves you and I know you love him. Do you love him? Do you think of him. Answer me, now!!!! Damnint!”

“Stop this! Stop this!”

“Then answer the question.”

“Yes, I do. I love Kit. He’s all I think about.”

I heard Cherice say these words. I could not believe my ears. Without thinking I went to her open window, put my head in and said,

“You do?”

Cherice looked at me as if surprised.

“You are no different than the rest, though. You only want me for one thing. You‘re a perv, a lecher.”

“Cherice, you know that is a lie. Yea, we kissed and that moment was my bad. It was totally out of hand and pure passion. But it was reciprocal. Have you ever had one instance where I groped you or made a lewd comment?”

“No...”

“If you would allow me to explain myself to you, you would see how I really feel about you.”

Cherice nodded her head and said to come over in an hour. Elijah and I left and I hugged Elijah and thanked him for being there for me.

“Kit, that’s what friends do.”

“Thanks bro.”

Elijah left and an hour later I went to Cherice’s. She let me in and we immediately started talking.

“Kit, I shouldn’t have said all of my feelings. I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“No, it’s ok, Cherice. I feel the same way about you.”

“Kit, I am sorry. I have wanted to be with you all along. I just can’t tell people how I feel. I’m so used to shallow people and after that kiss, I thought you would just want me for sex and never want to share anything with me except lewdness and debauchery. I‘m sorry I made you suffer.”

“Cherice, I have been in love with you since the first moment I laid eyes on you. I couldn’t say anything either because I thought you would never want me. I knew when I met you, you were deep and I wanted to share that with you. You were so beautiful, like a siren tempting the skies themselves to fall from the heavens to feel her embrace.”

“Oh, Kit. I love you. I’m sorry. Were you really in the hospital and do you have heart failure?”

“Yes, I’ve had pain for years but didn’t pay attention.”

“Oh my Scorpio. I can’t bear life without you!”

Cherice laid her head on my chest and I held her for many hours, her eyes gazing in mine as she felt the rhythm of my heart. After she fell asleep, I thought it was time I go. I put her head on her pillow and I found a piece of paper and pencil to write. I wrote the letter placed it on her pillow, pulled her dark-raven hair back and kissed her gently on the forehead and left.

On this paper, I wrote this letter:
“Cherice, I was planning to go to North Carolina after our graduation for college. After hearing that you wanted nothing to do with me, it seemed meaningless to stay here and suffer in this world without you. However, if you love me and want me to stay, I will go to college here so I can be with you. I love you baby and would do anything for you. If you want me to stay, let me know
CALL ME TOMORROW!
I love you baby,
Kit.
PS here is our poem for you and I

“I’ll Be Strong For You”

Softly into my bitter ears,
Your words flow freely inside my heart.
Staring at the night time sky,
I find myself thinking of you.
The stars, themselves, call out your name,
Bringing solace to my battered heart.
I wonder if you see them too,
Where you live, so far from me.
By my side, I wish you here,
Just to hold you next to me.
Alas, I know this is a dream;
A fantasy, delusional to my mind.
I have accepted many things.
I know time can’t heal my wounds.
I can fake a smile, a simple laugh;
Keeping faith to make you smile.
God, I know him all too well.
My life, he cursed at birth.
I hope that my many trials,
Won’t darken you with my despair
This lonely fate without you,
I don’t mind bearing the pain.
I can remain strong for you,
Bearing crosses for only two.
Your despair, I know you keep,
I’ll take it in, keep you free.
And all the rest throughout my time,
Matter not if you are near.
My bitter years of broken dreams,
I’ll pick the shards if I can keep you here.
May they slit my skin, my blood to surface,
Dripping pools on grass-stained life.
But if you’re happy without my hand,
This walk I will continue alone.
I will bear the curse of sorrow,
A loneliness for all of time.
