The NorthernerA Poem by Bidu IbrahimA tribute to the peoples of Northern KenyaFrom the desolate North Numbed by decades of marginalization Sticks out like a sore thumb A picture of emaciation Ever high on a cocktail of vain pride and aggression Loathed and revered in equal measures A Northerner defies all definition; A mishmash of true determination and wheeling and dealing An imagery of primitive savagery Drowning in clanism in a sea of tribalism Still struggling to reconcile with the past A magnet to every mess A scapegoat in every place The Northerner defies all description; Next time you see a Northerner, Ask if he’s proud to be one, I am! © 2016 Bidu IbrahimAuthor's Note
