"I woke up to a birdsong"A Poem by Ian AllisonJust a sonnet about a birdsong. Is it a birdsong? Is life real? Who are we?I am ecstatic when I hear them sing It’s almost like the final puzzle piece I walk and hear their familiar ring I sit nearby to put my mind at ease Someone asked me why I enjoy it so I woke up to hear a somber birdsong I went to work and seemed happy although I got home to see I waited too long For what I had waited has taken flight I go to bed depressed but still hopeful For what I’d seen fly away in the night Heard me and decided to stay local I woke up to a birdsong that day I cried tears of enlightenment and stared Through that window, where I once was astray As then my heart so prominently flared. I woke up to a birdsong that day I wouldn’t have it any other way © 2021 Ian AllisonAuthor's Note
