THE CHRONICLES VOLUME 1A Poem by IamRealTusoulThis poetry is about my time spent in Makurdi, and the long hot nights there last year 2014 when I went to write exam there.
From out of a feeble gray dawn
The sun crawled out of its hiding place From across the hills From across the hills of Andi-Ibila Like a prisoner being forced to carry on with his daily chores I was forced to welcome the rising sun. If I had a choice I would still be asleep like a lifeless statue. With the company of songs from crickets Who live just across the street Fifty steps from my block My night was filled with symphony of different kinds. In my sober state of mind I laid in a state of trance And listened to the different songs Being played by different little Djs All through the night As the hot april wind touched every inch of my body With a slight sigh. I prayed for rainfall I prayed for a cold downpour And wished for a cold breeze to caress my muscular body Like the time my ex-girl friend got hooked on my body Just like a heroine addict, on me she held on. Oh, how I prayed for morning Oh, how I prayed for a cool breeze to caress me And the wind to tickle my soul. I prayed for an escape ticket to get away from Makurdi But being there in 2014 was like a forced marriage With no future promise of a divorce. But here I am in 2015 Reminiscing the hot nights in Makurdi As I opened my eyes to the smiling face of the rising morning sun accompanied by a cool hamattan breeze in Oju And the caressing touch it brought to my soul. © 2015 IamRealTusoul |
