Bruises and Scars

Bruises and Scars

A Poem by Anastasia
"

I got these bruises and scars from ballet class, mainly dancing en pointe.

"

When I take off my shoes I see them.

The scars,

The ruined nails that are so bent out of shape,

The bruises that plague my feet.

They hurt,

Sometimes it hurts just to walk,

It pains me to run,

But I push through it.

I mask the pain with a fake smile and can-do attitude.

The scars and bruises that engulf my feet and lower legs.

But it’s okay,

These marks are who I am.

And I don’t mind them.

Because I got them doing something that I love.

Author's Note

Anastasia
I got these bruises dancing, ballet, tap, and jazz. It's not because I was abused.

This is totally original & unexpected, yet relatable, becuz I've seen situations where this happens (could be dance, could be bull riding, could be backpacking). I love the way you describe the hurts in a believable, palpable way, yet you also accept this as a natural part of doing something you love. I rode my bicycle for 2000 miles in my 30's & I want to tell you how much my intimate parts hurt! Now you've given me an amazing idea for writing something in a similar vein someday! *wink! wink*! Thanks for the inspiration . . . I love it when writers get outside the "typical" topics! *smile* fondly, Margie

I dance too and sometimes I get really self conscious about my feet because of the scars and scrapes but I love them? Like I love them so much. And I love the way this poem is at first interpreted as something abusive or depressing but it's about your dance.

Sore feet can be a bear. I did a roadmarches in the Army. Poor feet can suffer. Thank you Anastasia for sharing the outstanding poetry.

So true- each scar bruise mark makes us who we are with character- anything that requires dedication- is worth it- I used to do four hour aerobic marathons through the night none stop- pulled all my stomach muscles- but went back for more- no pain no gain- wonderfully written🌹

It's a sign of bravery when someone can run through there life with those scars which occurred while loving something. At a time it doesn't remains as scars well actually turns out to be their power.
Deep contents inside your poem!!

I always find scars as beautiful. I like this piece; it reminds me how doing what we love makes us happy and that sacrifices are only necessary :)
