because it hurt to cry.

i only smile,
because tears sting my eyes.

it may be fake,
but it's enough for now.

i'll get through it,
i just don't know how.

if i hold back the tears,
am i really okay.

the wound is deep,
my vision gets blurred.

i try to scream,
but i never get heard.

i whisper softly,
to the shadows of night.

they come in kind,
and they take my light.
