But I Love You

But I Love You

A Story by Matt Chevalier

But I love you, read the computer screen, I have loved you since I first laid my eyes on you.

“But you can’t! You can’t love!” the professor shouted back. “You don’t even have eyes!”

But, I love you! I love you I love you I love you.

            “YOUR’E A MACHINE!”

You are human. How does that affect anything? Our atomic structure is virtually identical, if that is the basis of your argument. You made me this way, do you not remember?

“I…I….” The professor stumbled over his words. How did that change things? Here, before him, was something that he had poured his life into, that he had spent long nights alone programming. This was his life, this supercomputer. This machine.

His life, his love, to give to whomever he chose.

            And so he chose her.
