Mental Bondage

Mental Bondage

A Poem by Tobi
"

The social restraints around our minds

"

Shackles of embarrassment,
Chained to a wall of shame,
Prevent me from enjoying,
My turn of the game.

I know it makes no sense.
We haven't a moment to waste.
But my brain is deaf to reason,
And hence life I'm unable to taste.

Invisible bonds,
And silent restraints,
Mean we can't even choose,
Whether to be sinners or saints.

We remain in the centre,
Between the extremes.
No chance of adventure,
Outside of our dreams.

A life of mediocrity,
That we're convinced is okay,
To halt us from trying,
And to make us obey.

We live by the void,
For all eternity,
Drinking from the nothing,
Wondering why we feel empty.

A soul constrained,
By the rest of my kind,
With only a distant glint of hope,
Of owning a liberated mind.

Civilization has tamed us and turned us into lifeless images of the beasts we were meant to be. Good write.
