I moved my ship to the lake this morning to make my journey back to the village shorter. When I arrived at the village, I shared a meal of treesap with Gramps. During our conversation I learned that Skeylans were indeed asexual and reproduced via mitosis. I made a poor attempt at explaining the concept of ‘gender’ to him.
Another day with Gramps has made me feel like my language skills have improved, he helped me out (via mostly pointing) to differentiate between words whose meanings I was unsure of from simply observing their habits.
A comment that made me smile was when he said that I had one of the strangest ‘accents’ (the way in which I sign) he had ever seen. I suppose that’s to be expected, I only have two arms after all.
Later on in the day, I was treated to a game they liked to play in the meeting hall. I’m not sure what I should call it in this journal but it was a type of dice game, using nine-sided dice made of brightly painted animal bone. It’s difficult to explain the rules, they’re quite complicated and yet I seemed to pick it up rather quickly. They were amazed with my progress, as if I was playing on instinct. In the end, I came second.
My day was extremely fun, I’m so happy that the Skeylans seem to have accepted me so quickly.
