Yearning

Yearning

A Poem by Katherine
"

Ironic, isn't it, how we always want what we don't have?

"

Children

yearn to grow up,

yearn to be important.

They play dress up,

d a y d r e a m…

about what lies ahead,

plan for their future lives.

Adults

yearn to return to that time

when they were small,

when they were unimportant.

"when they were small,
when they were unimportant." - I think that last line really hits the nail on the head here - the adults want to grow down - when burdens and responsibility were but a dream - the word choice of "unimportant" was interesting for me as it adds something that I wasn't expecting! nice!

I love this piece! It is eloquent, beautiful and all-too-true! You've said so much in so few words...I love that = ]

What a piercing look at how we are always wishing for something else.. longing for what we feel is peace or freedom or more. So well put!
