and once more disappoint.

and once more disappoint.

A Poem by Huw

The woman told me

she was scared of being happy

because when it ended

and it always did

the disappointment far outweighed

any semblance of joy

that the happiness had promised.

She avoided happiness

for she knew the path of disappointment

and where it would lead her.

She longed for and found emotional oblivion

in alcohol and drugs that also fuelled her lust

which left her ashamed and guilt ridden.

Never again, was her morning mantra

a feeble promise made to be broken

as the deep need and thirst reappeared

the wretched woman faced another day

and waited for happiness to break its promise

and once more disappoint.

About
I've been commenting on someone's drawings for a couple of months and she asked if I was a published poet. It made me laugh because I'd left school at 13 years old and never completed formal education.. more..
