...free from Alzheimer’s.

...free from Alzheimer’s.

A Poem by Huw

Between four & eight years

they reckon.

Stages? about seven they say

Maybe three years of quality time

during which I can still function

I might remove my mattress

and buy a coffin

sleep in it every night

so when I fail to wake

just close the lid

and lower me into

that dark deep

to sleep until the last day

until I hear that final trump

Then head for home

home at last and free

from the confines of time

and free from Alzheimer’s.

I've been commenting on someone's drawings for a couple of months and she asked if I was a published poet. It made me laugh because I'd left school at 13 years old and never completed formal education.. more..
