Envy

Envy

A Poem by Huw

The only people who describe fly fishing as relaxing

are those who have never been fly fishing.

The people who look at a cyclist zooming along and long

to do the same. Have never been soaked to the skin riding into a gale nor

wept tears of pain.

Those that see the photo of a sun tanned man standing

on a mountain top on the cover of a magazine.

Then purchase all the gear to live the dream. Soon discover that

there is pain and discomfort in the accent of a mountain and terrors

when the weather changes for the worse. When visibility ends at your boots.

Those that look at other peoples jobs or professions with envy

do so in ignorance.

Those that consider outward beauty as of singular importance.

Will soon discover the ugliness within.

Those that long for a big house, don’t think of the bills that need

to be paid to maintain the facade.

Those that imagine that being elsewhere would bring them happiness,

forget the fact, that wherever they are, they will always be discontented.

I've been commenting on someone's drawings for a couple of months and she asked if I was a published poet. It made me laugh because I'd left school at 13 years old and never completed formal education.. more..
