...I bet you think this poem's about you, don't you.

...I bet you think this poem's about you, don't you.

A Poem by Huw

You make plans

‘’It’ll be fun’’

nobody wants

to join in.

A friend promises

to come, but doesn’t

You work so hard

at being the life

and soul of the party

Sitting around a table

with everyone chattering

you begin to speak

then suddenly you realise

nobody is listening to you

one by one they go to the bar

You joke

you lead the laughter

but nobody joins in

Nobody told you

it could be lonely

in a crowd

they said

there was safety

in numbers

Suddenly it’s their fault

what’s the matter with everyone?

You pretend

to be a friend

so do they

 A thousand friends

they all pretend to care

but one day they’ll all leave

or you will, they’ll cry

for all the wrong reasons

and then forget all about you

as you lie in the ground.

Alone.

About
I've been commenting on someone's drawings for a couple of months and she asked if I was a published poet. It made me laugh because I'd left school at 13 years old and never completed formal education.. more..
