She hadn't been down to the garages....yet.

She hadn't been down to the garages....yet.

A Poem by Huw
"

I met a lady who was in turmoil because she had given her daughter money for heroin so that her daughter wouldn't steal. She explained the sequence of events.

"

At 11 years of age

down behind the garages

five shared a cigarette.

At 12 years five shared

a cigarette and a can.

At 13 years they had

cigarettes and spirits.

By 14  they were

into a joint and then someone

brought the heroin.

At 17 years they were

down to four.

At 19 another succumbed.

At 20 two more left time

and there remained the one.

She had a baby

and continued in her habit.

They said the child was unaffected,

but she hadn't been down to the garages....yet.

About
I've been commenting on someone's drawings for a couple of months and she asked if I was a published poet. It made me laugh because I'd left school at 13 years old and never completed formal education.. more..
