I deduced that people only 

sent Christmas and birthday

cards to reciprocate.

To confirm the suspicion

I stopped sending cards.

I now live in a card free zone.

So true, so many cards are given out of obligation and not with the true gesture of love, or thinking of someone one!

This is very true. Same logic applies to certain holidays which trigger the guilt feelings to call that relative or loved one you don't bother with the rest of the year...

i have done the same...very few still send me cards, but some do...

yet there were many way back whom i sent cards to, and never got any from...it's that obligation thing which i really hate.
