Beautiful Wooden IndianA Poem by Hutch![]() A gift from the past![]() hidden deep inside an old hardwood forest where the owl and hawk sing their wilderness choirs lives a beautiful grandfather white oak tree with a face carved upon it humans rarely see
left beautifully behind so terribly long ago from a culture driven away in a blinding snow a marker in a valley saying this is my home now only a spirit remains forever to roam
so many native signs i see and feel of a peaceful people tilling soil to grow another meal stone fish traps in the river a mound near a stream i close my eyes to imagine creating a beautiful dream
as the beaver thumps the water building his dams the river still swims with crayfish and clams i wonder do they miss him who once walked this land always watching over them with his spiritual hand
