early mornings

early mornings

A Poem by Huon Prichard
"

poem about winter in hobart

"
when I hear that alarm go off
stabbing and slashing through my dreamy peace
Oh man, it's so rough
I should've gone to bed earlier
now I'm shivering shirtless
feet'll feel numb on the heartless floorboards

I might cry if they cut my shower short
or give up on the day and climb back to bed

If I can make it to the next coffee
or steal the twenty minutes to close my eyes
Don't worry 'bout me, that's all need
I'm trying to work but the time just flies

At the end of the day, I'll curl my legs up
and get back into bed
tell myself I'll do better tomorrow
Breath out and shut my lids
To get ready to do it all over
and forget about the early morning waiting for me
