NeverA Poem by HumaPuma
Why do you stay? You say.
Why do I stay?
I sit and watch you fall to pieces,
every day. And clean you up when you get sick again. Never
I find you, every night, when you
don't come home. And I hold you until you heart is filled with hope. Never
You ask why I stay
with you. You wish you knew what to do. Never
And I hug your head to my chest,
and pray that I can shut out the demons that haunt you one day. Don't leave me here, alone, you say.
Never
I hold you close. I see your eyes close, I hear your
breath intake. I see the drops slide down your cheeks, and I pray I can erase all of my mistakes. Never
But now you are gone, and I
only weep. For hope was too great a thing for me to keep. I don't want to die alone. You whisper.
Never
I will never forget the love
we shared, the promises made, the true hearts that cared. Never
I remember the last words you spoke
to me. You were so frail, and I prayed it could not be. Did you lie when you said you loved me? You ask.
Never...
