Who are we?

Who are we?

A Poem by Hugh Oliver

'We are the books we read,

The Fantasies, the histories,

The parables and prophets

The Poem and Pentameter.

We are the Music we hear,

The Sonnets and the Stanzas

The Rhythm and the Rhyme

The melody, the tunes in time

We are the cities we breathe

The breeze and the scents,

the cracks in the concrete

The buzz, its' noise, its' lights and sights.

We are more than ourselves, more than our parts

More than warm flesh, and beating hearts.

Our souls, our loves, and losses

Our endings and our starts

Our ups and downs

Our travels around

And to those whom we are irretrievably bound

So much more than our own warm flesh,

So much more than a beating heart.
