A Debate between a Liberal and Conservative

A Debate between a Liberal and Conservative

A Stage Play by Hugh James
"

This, sadly, is what liberalism and conservatism have become in the 21st century.

"

The Liberal: Free health care for all! Universal preschool and college! Marijuana in liquor stores!

The Conservative: Kill the homosexual!

The Liberal: Protect the environment! Screw big business! Destroy Wal-Mart!

The Conservative: Kill the homosexual!

The Liberal: Love and peace!

The Conservative: Bomb Iran!

The Liberal: Affirmative Action! Whoo!

The Conservative: KILL THE HOMOSEXUAL!

This is cleverly written. I think it speaks on polar views, but I'm sure this was done to deliver an effective message. This could probably be written in prose form as well to be an excellent poem. I like the message in this piece, and I look forward to reading more of your writing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Cafe.

They'll say anything, won't they? Lol.
I think the anti-gay image is a bit outdated, seeing as there are quite a few in the party -
[I forgot to check if your British or American? If you're American, maybe you're talking political ideology in the States, as opposed to the actual Parties. In the UK, we have parties called The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives...also Labour, and then a lot of other Parties who are pretty much disregarded]
- if you're American, ignore the bit above the bracket, since it probably isn't outdated over there.
You guys as a nation are 'modern' in all except your social attitudes - and religion is to blame.

Anyway, your piece...
[I'm dumb - you're blatantly American: marijuana, college, Wal-Mart. Sorry.]
...Yeah, it basically seems to be a case of both sides saying what their supporters want to hear, regardless of what they think [the Liberal] and how it will isolate other groups who may have considered voting for them based on policy [the Conservative].

An interesting piece.
Kind of overstated, but it's better than lying [the Politician...lol].

Congratulations on being the only piece in 'Top Stage Writing'.

Kind of a short stage play, but I found it humorous and it made a point. I would like to say that I consider myself a conservative and wish absolutely no harm to homosexuals. However, I think your piece points to the public image problem that conservatives seem to have.
